Highlights
  • Iona Church - Gregor will take you up to the cemetery, first passing by the Port Chalmers Presbyterian Church, a beautiful stone building with unusual features and some Weller men history if you’re not tired of the shanty by now!
  • Port Chalmers Old Cemetery - Once at the cemetery, Gregor will take you through a selection of graves and tell the stories of the people buried there. Most are stories that haven’t been heard since they died, Gregor spends a lot of time researching old newspapers and texts to piece together the lives and stories of the departed. Respectfully told and thoughtfully produced but entertaining and thought provoking, Tales From Darkest Dunedin is an emotional experience like none other. The tour ends at the local hotel in Carey’s Bay, a Victorian stone building that specialize in fresh caught sea food and local beer. Gregor will be pleased to stay on and chat local and international history and whatever else takes the fancy if he has time. The tour takes approximately 90 minutes.
