This was an absolutely brilliant day - I’m writing this at the end of my day at the site. It’s been an absolutely fantastic day. My head is buzzing with new information and some really spectacular photographs taken today. We are going back in tomorrow for a second look around. I strongly encourage people to take up the free talks that are spotted around the place at different times during the day. The speakers that we dealt with were absolutely engaging. A very special thank you to Carl and Jet. The food is quite pricey, but it’s a really nice place to sit and eat. The place certainly has a vibe about it, but in absolute contrast it’s absolutely beautiful. Going to the site of the Old cafe was quite confronting, but it’s done really nicely to commemorate the victims from 1996. But it’s one tiny part of what happened here. We did the ghost to the night before, which was magnificent, and we also went to the Isle of the dead which again was brilliantly presented by Andrew. We took the free boat trip out and around as well I strongly encourage people to visit this place, it’s a place of spectacular sadness but also of quite spectacular history too. I guarantee you will walk away learning something completely fascinating.

So much to see - give yourself plenty of time! Put your walking shoes on, and be prepared to learn some history! - Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to see all of the available exhibits in this fabulous place. We would recommend joining one of the tours (we did the commandants tour - additional fee to the entrance fee), it would have been good to add in the island of the dead tour, but this was also and additional fee. We chose the harbour cruise instead, which was good and free too! We timed our arrival a little later in the morning, as we had booked into a ghost tour at night, and figured we might be ‘hanging around’ between day and night - the site closed at 5 pm and the ghost tour was at 6.30. It turned out we didn’t get round all of the site during the day which was a little disappointing (our fault), but the lovely staff in the restaurant managed to squeeze us into the restaurant for dinner before the ghost tour. All in all it was an excellent day/night!

Visit to remember! - Absolutely beautiful place to visit, immaculately presented and full of amazing historical detail. Our trip was made even more special with the help of the trolley driver Mick who gave us access to a number of buildings involving lots of walking which was a problem for us at present.

Great trip out - Enjoyable visit to Port Arthur A bit on the expensive side for things to do, wasn’t keen on the harbour cruise but glad to have done it. Nice to have a wine and listen to the tour guide who spoke incredibly well Isn’t a place that I would revisit all the time Loads of walking which was nice as it was sunny

Very disappointed - I love a good prison tour & the history that goes with it & we were very disappointed with this one. The boat tour was really good though. Random plaques around that told more about people than being associated with the sites they were at. No mock ups of how the prisioners lived, no information that we could find about their conditions or punishments etc. So disappointed the asylum was closed. Got over it all pretty quickly, done & dusted in three hours. The likes of alcatraz & fremantle are 100 times better!!
