costello.melissa's Perfect Days

"Twilight In Boston" (And Somerville, Too)

    • Morning
      • Johnny D's

      • Because nothing says "Wake up, Darlin'" like the energetic sounds of an authentic jazz band and the refreshing taste of a mimosa. Bonus points: Johnny D's was a founding member of Somerville Local First.
      • Cambridge Antique Market

      • Time flies in the CAM--it's easy to get lost in a yesteryear eden with decades and floors of great, eclectic, vintage finds!
    • Afternoon
      • Pavement Coffeehouse

      • Warm up and re-energize with a nice cup of joe and don't forget a chocolate bar before you go. A great spot to relax on a silver (!) couch, check out featured local art or grab a quick bite to eat. Bonus: vegetarian and vegan friendly--make sure to try their tofu cream cheese!
      • Boston Common

      • Peruse the shops on Boylston and Newbury Street, take a walk amongst Boston's historical and immaculate architecture, and stroll down (or take the T) to The Boston Commons or Public Garden. A great place to sit and observe Boston's culture at your fingertips. Bonus points: The frog pond turns into a skating rink every winter, so grab a pair of skates and your warmest mittens for an afternoon session on the ice.
    • Evening
      • Institute of Contemporary Art

      • A small but mighty museum. The architecture alone is enough to visit. The building is situated right on the waterfront and has a lovely view of the harbor from a glassed wall. The museum has a small permanent collection and an ever-changing schedule of rotating exhibits. My favorite piece from their permanent collection is Cornelia Parker's "Hanging Fire". Make sure to check out the gift shop before you leave. I have spent quite some time in there perusing books, odd and interesting home decor, and much more.
      • toro

      • Come here for amazing tapas and a great ambience. Make sure to try the pork and beef belly chili and certainly do not leave without eating the grilled corn. Bonus: Enjoy your dinner outside in the nicer weather.
    • Night
      • Lucky's Lounge

      • A speakeasy-esque type bar, there are no signs advertising Lucky's out front-It is located downstairs in a brick building. A great place for some good tunes and creative cocktails. If the tapas didn't fill you up at Toro, Lucky's has great bar food. The atmosphere is casual and cool. Bonus Points: Come here for Sinatra Brunch--live music and delicious eats!
      • Drink

      • In keeping with the speakeasy vibe, head on down to Drink. A small sign invites you in to this cozy, underground bar.
There is no drink menu for cocktails but every cocktail I've had here has been deliciously pleasing and tailored to my requests. This is perhaps my favorite establishment in the city. A great place for a true craft cocktail.
Bonus Points: The bartenders dress the part adorned in suspenders and vests only adding to the eclectic ambience.
