Foodie and Culture Buff

When traveling I’m most excited about experiencing the native culture and eating the traditional foods of the area. I love checking out the historical architecture, discovering hole-in-the-wall restaurants and for good people watching, I like posting up at a café or in a park. I’m a huge fan of taking public transportation, as it’s a great way to both see a city and learn about the people that live there. When I think of having a perfect day, I can’t help but first think of San Francisco. Not only is it my home, but I also get to experience a lot of the above on a daily basis. With so much to do and see, it really is an amazing city to explore whether you’re a local or just visiting.

La Taqueria in the Mission

Make sure you don't miss

  1. Farmer’s Market at the Ferry Building on Saturday: Grab an espresso from Blue Bottle Coffee and explore the various local food stands. My usual go to’s for lunch are Roli Roti’s Porchetta Sandwich or the Loco Moco from Namu.
  2. Giants game AT&T Park: Whether you’re a baseball fan or not, it’s hard not to have a great time watching a game on the water. The garlic fries are a must.
  3. I love burritos and there’s no place better than the Mission to find one. My favorite is the Carne Asada at La Taqueria.
Benu Tasting Menu

My favorite places to eat

  1. Benu: For an incredible dining experience or when celebrating, the tasting menu is the way to go.
  2. Mission Chinese Food: There is usually a wait, but trust me, it’s well worth it. Some of my favorites include the Kung Pao Pastrami, Smoked Beef Brisket Soup Noodles, the Mouthwatering Chicken and the Ma Po Tofu.
  3. R&G Lounge: Classic San Francisco spot which everyone should experience at least once. Make sure that the Salt and Pepper Crab is a part of your order.
The Golden Gate from Chrissy Field

The places you should definitely see

  1. The viewing tower at the De Young Museum: On a clear day you can see from Downtown to the ocean.
  2. Chrissy Field: One of the City’s most beautiful spots. Amazing views of the Bay and is the perfect place for a stroll or bike ride anytime of day.
  3. Muir Woods: Venture across the Golden Gate Bridge and make the drive up into the Marin Headlands. Never a bad time to go, but it’s super fun to go during salmon season.

The next trip that I’m most excited to go on is to Taiwan, Laos, Singapore and Vietnam.
