Highlights

Sunken city, Little Theatre of Epidaurus.

Probably the best outing of our group, due to its unique combination of history, culture, gastronomy, folklore, fun and entertainment.

Our incredible experience begins at Yialasi Beach, located a short stroll from the center of Epidaurus. We will paddle westward to the famous Sunken City, also known as Argolida’s Lost Atlantis, with a great view of the imposing Volcano of Methana.
The city was built 500 AC. You can see the remains of it and in some places even the ancient breakwater is still preserved. Walls, foundations of buildings, amphorae of huge dimensions and paved sections are sunken, meters below sea level, and only few meters away from shore. Being only two meters in depth, makes it a unique location for underwater site-seeing, snorkeling and underwater pictures.
Once we reach the seabed, we will give you masks to swim among the ancient ruins, take photos, observe the unique colorful fish and experience for yourselves the aura and unique healing energy of Epidaurus (Epidaurus: the place where the aura works).

When we’ll manage to convince you to move on, our next destination is the Little Theatre of Epidaurus. The Little Theatre of Epidaurus is placed in an area called Nisi, near the port of Palea Epidaurus. It used to be the theatre of the ancient city-state and apart from drama performances, it also hosted religious and political celebrations. This theatre was discovered in the early 1970s, under a field of olive trees and its restoration process continues till today.
Its construction started in the 4th century B.C. and was originally built to cover the needs of this small city-state, so its size was not big. It had 9 tiers and 18 rows of seats and could host about 2,000 spectators. Some seats have inscriptions which show that the theatre was dedicated to god Dionysus and was built in sections.
This theatre was totally reformed in the Roman times: the orchestra became semi-circular and the seats were reordered. However, it is believed that the small theatre of Epidaurus was in function for only seven centuries since its construction, because the historian Pausanias, who visited the area in the middle of the 2nd century BC, didn’t mention anything about it.
After several excavations and much restoration work performed over the last decades, the Epidaurus Little Theatre hosts today the annual Greek Festival, celebrated in summer with music, dance and theatre performances. There are seats for 800 spectators and work is done to restore more of them. The performances are mostly held in modern or ancient Greek.

At the end of our journey, we will continue through gastronomy, by visiting \

Unique experience not to be missed - This was lovely. Snorkeling over a sunken city is a hard to beat. The guide was very personable & gave wonderful history & local recommendations. It’s very easy and short kayaking, although the kayaks themselves were a little difficult to maneuver. I highly recommend

Using some new muscles! - We enjoyed this kayak adventure, boy was that a workout!. We enjoyed snorkeling for turtles and viewing the sunken villa. robert is a great tour guide and very knowledgeable about the area, we visited an old amphitheater nearby. I would have appreciated a little instruction on how to use the snorkle and what to do if you get water in it.

Flawless Excursion - Saw this mentioned in The Rough Guide to Greece and so glad we went! My partner commented on how it was a perfect blend of seeing ancient sites (little theater, Roman villa), physical activity (fun relaxing kayaking, swimming, snorkeling) and meeting wonderful people (both fellow travelers and ESPECIALLY our amazing guides). After eating out for almost 10 days having delicious vegetarian home-cooked food was a highlight for us. We appreciated the quality of the equipment, especially the dry bags and the snorkeling gear. The tour is really well designed to offer you a variety of activities, everything you need, and still go on some other excursion or site later in the day. Everyone who travels to the Argolida area should take this tour!

Favorite day ever! - My FAVORITE day we had in the 10 days we were in Greece. First, everything was perfect…. The weather, the guides, the equipment, the water. Secondly, grandma made the best food for us. And last but certainly not least was George - our guide. Professional to be sure, but very knowledgeable about everything - the history, kayaking, flora and fauna. He was super laid back, hilariously funny and overall made a magical trip more approachable. He’s the guy you become friends with very quick because he loves life. Highly recommend.

Highly recommended - An extremely pleasant trip. The route was scenic and the experience was breath taking. Bill was very skilled, patient with the rookies, and is very knowledgeable about the place. We added a member last minute and Bill gave up his lunch for us. He even said that he needed to keep his stomach empty when he kayaks so as to not make us feel bad. How incredibly kind and heart-warming. Additionally, the experience was made even better by the home cooked food by George’s parents. It was great trying authentic Greek food after a kayaking workout. Indeed a remarkable experience!

Great experience! - This was an amazing experience; to see the coast from the water and learn about history, geology, horticulture and ancient archaeology. Our guide, Vasilis (Bill), was knowledgeable and engaging. He kept a moderate pace on the water and showed us many interesting characteristics of the land. We visited the small theater of Epidavros, which was a nice prelude to our visit to the large theater inland later that day. The first small beach where we snorkeled was lovely. Snorkeling at the sunken city was really unique, and we were fortunate to be there when there were no crowds. The day we were there was very calm paddling outbound, and a bit challenging on the way back as the wind picked up. However, not so much as to need high level kayaking skills. This tour could be even for inexperienced kayakers. A highlight of our tour was the home made picnic lunch, made by the mother of the owner, George. So amazing! A great reward for the paddling, and towards the end of the tour with just a few minutes paddle to the home beach. Thank you Vasilis and George and George’s mom!

Fun kayak trip, the rest not so impressive. Nice people. - The kayak trip was great. It's double sea kayaks. The sunken city was only a house and not so impressive. The lunch was greek style home made in a box.
