Upon boarding the Porfyrousa ferry at Neapolis (ticket not included), we’ll journey to Diakofti, Kythira’s port, to meet our guide. From there, we’ll embark on a scenic coach tour of Kythira, initially visiting the monastery of Our Lady Myrtidiotissa. Nestled in Kythira’s western region, the monastery is reached via a picturesque route flanked by lush vegetation and rugged cliffs. We will explore the large monastery, adorned with a tall, porous stone steeple that measures 25 metres. Within the monastery, discover the ten marble pillars that uphold the church’s rooftop, found complete 200m from the church during its construction, wax candles named after a Turkish woman, Tourkalas, whose child was protected by the Virgin Mary, and of paramount importance, the divine golden icon of Panagia Myrtidiotissa (the Virgin Mary). Our visit also includes a trip to the Monastery’s compact museum.
