Additional Information

Alongside the churches, palaces, and streets making up Naples’ dense cityscape, exists a hidden world teeming with archaeological wonders, crypt-filled catacombs, stunning cloisters, and millennia-old tunnels carved into malleable volcanic tufa rock. Our exploration of this captivating, oft-overlooked side of Naples begins from Via dei Tribunali. This will lead us to the Forum, featuring monumental ruins buried beneath the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore. Following our stint at the underground burial ground of the church named for the souls languishing in Purgatory, we will proceed to the Santa Chiara Monastery, built in the 14th century atop ancient Roman baths. The journey continues through the famed Via San Gregorio Armeno, a street exclusively selling intricate nativity scenes (‘presepe’), and through Spaccanapoli - a time-worn street transversing the city’s historical centre.

  • As this is a walking tour through various areas of the city centre, with steps and uneven walkways, comfortable walking shoes and a bottle of water are strongly recommended.
  • Please advise if any travellers have mobility concerns so that we can best accommodate you.
  • A dress code is required to enter places of worship. Knees and shoulders must be covered for both men and women. You may risk refused entry if you fail to comply with these dress requirements.
