Additional Information

Volubilis (known as Walili in Berber languages and وليلي in Arabic) is a partially excavated Berber city in Morocco, located near Meknes. It’s often recognized as the ancient capital of the kingdom of Mauretania.[1] Positioned in a rich agricultural zone, it began to develop from the 3rd century BC as a Berber and later a proto-Carthaginian settlement, eventually becoming the capital of the kingdom of Mauretania. Under Roman governance starting from the 1st century AD, the city saw rapid growth and expanded to encompass approximately 42 hectares (100 acres) enclosed by a 2.6 km (1.6 mi) wall.
