  • Maullin - Departing from Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt, we’ll head to the village of Maullin. Here, we’ll board a vessel that will ferry us to the Quenuir area, an exceptional spot for observing and/or capturing images of the local wildlife.
  • Quenuir - At the confluence of the Maullin River and Laguna Las Lajas, which harbors 53% of Chile’s migratory birds, we’ll explore these regions. Depending on the season, we may encounter a variety of species such as flamingos, Coscoroba swans, Imperial and Rock Cormorants, the Chilean dolphin, black-necked swans, curlews, pilpilen, and other avian residents.

Enjoy birdwatching in Quenuir, situated at the Maullín River mouth and the Las Lajas Lagoon, where 53% of Chile’s migratory birds converge.

Our journey will take us across these regions, where depending on the season, we might spot flamingos, Coscorobas swans, Imperial and de las Rocas cormorants, the Chilean dolphin, black-necked swans, curlews, pilpilen and other regional birds. This offers an exceptional opportunity for bird observation and photography.

Itinerary.
Our expedition commences from either Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt, heading towards the Maullín village, roughly 70 km distant. Upon reaching the city, we’ll tour the square and church, with a quick overview of the local wetlands (WHSRN) and the day’s activity.

  • Our journey continues on a boat that would transport us to Quenuir Bajo, from which we’ll start our trek to the Las Lajas wetland, birdwatching and absorbing local history along the way. We’ll also learn how the 1960 earthquake impacted Quenuir Bajo and its effects on local life.
    Upon reaching the Las Lajas wetland viewing point, we’ll take a brief respite to rejuvenate.

Continuing our expedition, we navigate to the Laguna Quenuir wetland, before heading to Picá del flamenco to order empanadas.
Arriving at the Laguna Quenuir wetland, we’ll further indulge in birdwatching.
Afterward, we gather at Picá del flamenco to relish our empanadas and reflect upon the day.
Subsequently, we commence our departure to the boat bound for our journey’s starting point.

  • Around 17:00 hrs: We’ll be back in Maullín, bidding each other farewell before parting ways and returning to our departure cities.
  • This experience is done in any type of weather. If canceled due to extremely bad weather conditions, you will be offered another date or a full refund of the amount paid. In this experience there must be a minimum number of travelers. If it is canceled because this minimum is not reached, you will be offered another date or experience or a full refund of the amount paid. There will be a maximum of 15 travelers on this excursion or activity.
