The Sassi of Matera have been a popular film location since the 1950s, hosting dozens of films primarily with biblical themes, thanks to its uncanny similarity to the Holy Land. Recently, this unique setting has also become favored for action and adventure films. Indeed, in August and September of 2019, scenes from the latest 007 film ‘No Time to Die’ was filmed here, set to be released internationally on September 30, 2021. A new tour has been established that follows the ‘traces of 007’ blending both the filmic and historical-architectural journey for the visitor.
