Additional Information

Eventually, Jews were coerced into residing in zones termed as “Carriére”, a Provencal term for street, segregated from Christians, and isolated behind a chain and later a door. These confined streets, crowded with lofty buildings, offered limited space. Their conditions improved only following the French Revolution which emancipated them and dispersed their settlements.

There’s an abundance of knowledge waiting to be unearthed about Jewish settlements in Provence, spanning from their history of ghettos to the ancient burial grounds and therapeutic wells.

Jewish Heritage - Seeing the synagogues and learning about their history. It was fascinating to hear how the Pope helped out the Jewish community during a stressful time in history.
