Highlights
  • Mount Longonot National Park - 6:00am:- Nairobi- Great African Rift Valley

Depart Nairobi for Mt Longonot National Park going through the Kikuyu lush green highlands and then on the eastern escarpment of the rift valley system.

6:30am:

You will make a scheduled stop at the view point on the side of the escarpment to enjoy the view of the Rift valley floor from a birds eye view. The rift valley system was formed 5 million years ago and the rift runs from the red sea through Ethiopia and Kenya and Tanzania. The rift valley is an active volcanic area and has some of the most interesting features including more than 8 lakes, dormant and active volcanic mountains and hotsprings and geysers like the Olkaria geothermal wells and Lake Bogoria geysers.

You can actually see the volcanic Mt Suswa and Mt Longonot from this high place with their evergreen craters and the undulating green rift valley floor. The view from here is just amazing. Make sure to take as many photos from here as you can.

7:00am:

Drop into the rift valley and arrive at the Mt Longonot national park for your Hike up to the crater. The hike requires medium physical fitness and you will climb through the gulleys that dot the sides of this mountain. You can make some rest stops at the designated places on the trek. You will get to the rim of the crater and look into the awesome crater below. If you have the strength for it, you can go round the rim of the crater.

Great hike followed by tasty lunch and boat safari - It was great fun hiking to the top of Mount Longonot. It is a stratovolcano located in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya. We had a fantastic hike with amazing views. Our guide Isaac from Perfect Safaris was very helpful and friendly. We also visited Lake Naivasha. First we enjoyed a big and tasty Kenyan lunch buffet. Later we did a boat safari on Lake Naivasha. We could see plenty of birds and hippos. On the shore we saw African buffalos and zebras.

Great day trip with hiking and boat ride - We did this trip as a part of a two day package. Our guide Isaac and our driver Meshack took very good care of us and gave us a lot of extra information. The hike was somewhat challenging - bring good shoes and enough water - but the views on top were amazing! Nice with the boat ride afterwards to wind down a bit and to see the hippos and bird life of Lake Naivasha.

Great Outing! - This was a great trip for me as a solo female traveler! My guide for the day, Patrick, was absolutely fantastic and facilitated a great day. My guide at the park, Stephen, was great and patiently waited for me to catch my breath. This was a moderately challenging hike -- you can check it out on All Trails in advance. Highly recommended adding on the boat ride, bringing water for the hike (in reuseable bottles) and some cash along for the boat ride (approx 25USD) & any souvenirs you want to pick up.

Really enjoyable day out - Our driver Denis was on time and really pleasant. We got to Mount Longonot really early (we were the first ones there), and this was brilliant as we saw giraffes and zebras close up within the first 10 minutes of the walk. Views from the top were stunning. The walk itself was not too challenging and I think most would be able to achieve this (we elected to not walk around the rim as it would have added an extra 3.5 hours). Our guide Frank was really knowledgeable and made the walk really enjoyable. We then went to Lake Navaisha where we had a private boat tour which was really nice, the scenery on the far side of the lake was stunning and being alone was very peaceful. We saw hippos and fish eagles really close up again. Then we had lunch which was tasty. All in all a really enjoyable day, thanks guys.
