Additional Information

Journey through the rainforest, high up in the mountains east of Chiang Mai on this 1 day trip in and around Mae Kampong. We’ll explore a stunning village nestled among towering mountains, meet and have a chat with the locals and enjoy some local treats and even have a chance at spotting gibbons in the wild!

Before we arrive at the village we’ll go for a short hike to try and spot the resident gibbons, these majestic creatures were released in the past as part of a rehabilitation project and now live in a secluded area known to only a few people.

We’ll continue to journey up into Mae Kampong and enjoy a wander around the network of streets before the jungle hike begins. The hike takes you along a secluded 3km trail through the forest, which is seldom visited and not well known except to locals. We’ll see one of the oldest trees in Chiang Mai, and the local guide will explain about the flora and fauna along the way. Then it’s time for lunch before returning to the city!

Fantastic tour for nature lovers! - This was a great tour. The village in the mountain is super cute and the walks through the jungle was beautiful and so educational. Our guide told us everything about the plants they use for cooking and medicinal purposes. She was super nice as well. We went to see one of the gibbons as well and get to hear her singing, it was beautiful. Would totally recommend this tour!

Terrific day with lovely people - Our guide was so happy and fun. She gave us up close experiences with gibbons, and jungle flora. So much fascinating information about the plants and their uses. The villagers of Mae Kampong obviously like her too.

Mae Kampong jungle tour - Suwanus was in every aspect a fantastic guide. This started with our communication prior to the trip, and during the trip she was at all times informative, kind and most importantly, not only very knowledgeable about the Thai culture, but also the Mae Kampong people specifically. She could tell us so much about the flora and fauna, which was really interesting and also local purposes for all the herbs, plants and fruits we came across in the jungle. Highly recommend the trip.

Fantastic Tour - I loved the tour, everything was very well organized and the village is pretty and so is the forest trail. Suwanus is really passionate about her job and we left with a different feeling from all other tours we took. I will definitely remember this trip as one of the best days of our vacation in Thailand. thank you!

Unforgettable experience! - I can only recommend this tour! Our pick-up was on-time and all other organisational matters were handled perfectly. The thing that really stuck out for me was the fact that our guide had such a honest connection with the village people and the carer of the gibbons. We didn’t have the feeling that the people were educating us for the money but rather that they liked to teach us about their culture and life in the village over time. Also our guide adjusted the time frame to our group. Instead of sticking 100% to the original time plan we were given more time to connect with the group which was so nice 😊 and still we came back on time and with no issues at all and saw everything that was advertised 😁

Really a great day and a fantastic experience - First and foremost - our guide was extraordinary - above and beyond what you would expect - Thank you. We were fortunate to get to the gibbon monkeys - no doubt because our guide somehow knew when they were treated with fruit. The hike, the Mae Kampong village and the knowledge of an addinational local guide on flora and fauna made it a great day. Last but not least - the driver of our little bus was skilled - it flet safe to drive with him
