Highlights
  • Salto El Puquen - After a 2-hour drive north from Santiago (approximately 116mi), we will arrive in Puquén, Bioparque Los Molles, where we will embark on a leisurely 3-hour walk. This pristine protected area preserves the natural wonders of Chile’s central coast, offering a unique scenic beauty shaped by its geography and rich biodiversity. Visitors can admire a variety of species, including steppe shrubs and abundant flowers that paint the landscape with a vibrant palette of colors during the spring season.

This area is recognized as a priority site for conservation, and it boasts multiple geological formations worth exploring. Among its main attractions is a blowhole known as Puquén. During high tide, water rushes landward through a vertical shaft, resulting in awe-inspiring blasts of water and wind that reach remarkable heights.

Nearby, you can also witness a ‘Lobera,’ an island hosting a large colony of South American sea lions. Here, you can observe their activities and listen to their calls.

  • Isla Los Pinguinos Cachagua - In the afternoon, we’ll drive south for about 30 minutes, passing through the coastal towns of Papudo and Zapallar, until we reach Cachagua. At this final stop, a short 1.5-mile walk along a beautiful coastal trail is offered. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to encounter amazing wildlife, highly recommended for bird lovers. You’ll pass by the tranquil waters of Las Cujas beach before reaching Cachagua beach.

In a corner of this extensive sandy area, the group will have a chance to observe, about 300 feet away, a refuge for incredible wildlife: the Natural Monument of Cachagua Island. Home to 14 coastal and oceanic bird species, it’s a fragile and unique ecosystem. One highlight is the Humboldt Penguin, endemic to the Humboldt Current, and if lucky, you might spot the Chungungo, the world’s smallest marine mammal

Incredible coastal views. The Pacific at its best - Nicolas picked us up at the hotel and the following 8 hours were outstanding . He is charming, extremely knowledgeable of the coastal ecology and very fluent in English, making the conversation very informative. The sites we visited were all breathtakingly beautiful. The reserva Puquen is otherworldly. Instead of a rigid prepared talk, he allowed the conversation to diverge from current ecological challenges in Chile, to the contemporary music scene, to politics, and the local economy. Unfortunately we didn’t have the time to join him in one of his other tours, ( he also provides mountain hiking tours), but it is certainly on our to do list on our next trip to Santiago. Could not recommend him more highly.

Walk on The Wild Side - Our guides Nico and Daniel were amazing. Nico had fantastic knowledge of all the native plants we saw on our hike through this large beautiul reserve. Then they took us to a delicious lunch at Nico's parents beautiful seaside home. Then another long walk along an ocean walkway to see wildlife, beaches and pengiuns. They both speak very good English and were great helping us up and down some slippery spots on a rainy day. Highly recommend this tour if you love to walk and see special places outside of the city.
