Discover one of America’s most fascinating first ladies! The Mary Todd Lincoln House was the family home of the wife of 16th president Abraham Lincoln. Mrs. Lincoln was sophisticated, educated, and versed in politics. On the surface, her success in the White House seemed assured. Yet, few women in American history have endured as much controversy and tragedy. Tour her childhood home to explore the full story.

  • The Mary Todd Lincoln House is partially wheelchair accessible. The first floor of the museum can be reached via a handicap lift and is wheelchair navigable. Please ask staff for access to the lift. The second floor is not wheelchair accessible. There are twenty-one steps to the second floor. A photo album of the upstairs is available for visitors who are unable to or choose not to tour the upstairs.

Todd family history is interesting - So wonderful to learn the history of one of the most influential First Ladies in history. Learning about her large family and how divided they were but still loved each other. All of it was very interesting. Very nice that they have been able to obtain some of the original Todd family furniture. I loved the guided tour and hearing the stories shared by Sharon.

Wonderful tour that allows you to walk in the steps of Lincoln - Hats off to the tour guide! As an anthropology major and graduate of LSU, it was nice to see a young person (matriculating in History), who was so well versed in both the direct account of the residence and also the period history. As we all know, the folks in that period were burdened with the slavery issue. Along with the accomplishments of the Todd-Lincoln family, she never steered away from the ills regarding slavery that the family committed. I appreciate the whole-hearted lesson provided. Nothing was "white-washed" and it was truly informative tour. Sadly though, there was a woman suffering with ALS that day and she was not able to take the tour but between myself and her husband Robert, we were able to (via photos) at least allow her to enjoy the experience. Hopefully as a society, we will continue to make museums inclusive and allow those in wheel-chairs to enjoy the experience. I wish I could fund it myself, but sadly that is not an option. Pass a bill to fund it and I will be the first to give my nickel in taxes.

Not your typical house tour - My reasons for going on this tour is that it is highly rated for Lexington and because we saw the Lincoln house in Springfield. This house is rather plain and does not have the history like presidential homes, but it s still fascinating and I give my tour guide a five star rating. Very glad that we toured it.
