Additional Information

The bento box is a classic element of Japanese tradition. It’s often considered the ideal meal: each partition of the box could hold an egg roll, rice, pickled veggies, breaded chicken, and even a savory miso soup. The term ‘bento’ originates from an older Japanese word that means ‘convenient’, and this compact meal solution undoubtedly fits the bill. In this cooking class that spans 3 hours, located in the heart of Kyoto, you will learn how to prepare a bento box meal. Expert chefs lead the demonstration before handing the reins to you. The best part? You get to enjoy the fruits of your labor when the cooking is done.

Excellent Cooking Class with Vegetarian Options - This class is very organized and you get to cook and eat a wide variety of Japanese foods. There were three people teaching our group of 10 and all spoke very good English and were friendly. We requested ahead of time to have vegan dishes and they were very responsive to our needs during the class. They even asked if dashi (fish based broth) was okay. Overall a wonderful experience.

Perfect for the experienced cook and non-cook - A fantastic experience for me (an experienced cook) and my husband (a non-cook). We were very lucky to have a class to ourselves and learnt some lovely tricks from the chef, who was calm, gentle and absolutely delightful. Highly recommended.

Cooking tips from their grandmothers! - Both instructors were excellent and even shared their grandmothers techniques (like washing vegetables in soy sauce). They were also very easy to understand - cooking was lots of fun. We made several dishes that we will make again at home.

Excellent insight and lunch! - An excellent course. I do love a cooking course when on holiday - great way to gain some skills, get into the culture and meet some locals. This did all three and was a great lunch as well! Who knew teriyaki chicken was so easy!

Super yummy and super fun! - Super yummy and super fun! Naomi was so sweet and gave us so many tips on how to prepare the food. Even food I had made before, I had come away with new fun knowledge on how to prepare it and I'm excited to make this food again at home! Such a wholesome experience and a great way to start the day.

Very worth the money! - This class was one of our favourite activities during our trip to Japan! The hosts spoke good english and were incredible at demonstrating and giving background to the food we were making. Our bento boxes turned out beautifully and the whole process was a very satisfying, when we got to eat the food we had created! Would definitely recommend!
