To date, it has welcomed more than 40 million intrigued visitors from across the globe and earned a spot on the UNESCO world heritage list in 1978. As you travel along the tourist path, approximately 20 magnificent chambers await your discovery, along with saltwater lakes, mining equipment, and art pieces showcasing delicate sculptures and reliefs, all crafted from salt by skilled human hands. Knowledgeable licensed guides from the Salt Mine will enrich your journey with tales of the mine’s history and anecdotes about the miners who have toiled there for generations. Prepare for a descent of 800 steps (350 steps to reach 135 metres underground), but rest assured the steps are wide and equipped with handrails. When your underground adventure concludes, a lift will convey you back to the surface.

  • The temperature inside the Salt Mine is stable all year long, around 14 degrees Celcius.
  • There is an original miner’s lift to bring you up to the surface.
  • The exit shaft is 500 m away from the one used to enter the mine.

Our learning and experience of Krakow and its many stories, both happy and very sad should be experienced by everyone. - We did a tour to the Salt Mine and it was amazing. The skills and craftmenship of the miners was fantastic and the guide was very interesting and knowledgable. Our driver Maciek really made the day special as he answered our many questions and give us his personal insite into the City past and present and this really added to our enjoyment overall. Full marks deserved.

Worth the trip and cost - Amazing structure and carvings. There ARE a lot of stairs, mostly in bunches. The first group is the most challenging. There are a few narrower passageways; but most are fairly wide and the ventilation is great. Our tour docent was Yvonne and our driver was Rafael. Rafael did a great job explaining what to expect. Yvonne is quite enthusiastic about the tour and has great communication skills. After 2+ hours in the mine, it was difficult to imagine that we had seen him not about 1% of the mine and tunnels. It is definitely an experience worth having at least once.

Interesting - It was a fun experience though I wish the group were smaller. There were 45 people, and she did not have a microphone which made it difficult to hear her. Couple that with everyone around you having conversations it was impossible to hear a lot of the information. It is a lot of walking, though there were a few places to rest and you do get a break halfway through. Be prepared to a lot of shorts they is they go around and around, and if you are claustrophobic, you may have a difficult time. We did have someone from our group that went back to the entrance after only a few flights of stairs! Also when you exit it is longer to get to the elevator that brings you back to the street level. You can come out at three different locations- when is in the main area of the mind where you enter and the other two are down the road. Even though they tell you we had to go when you exit the elevator and get onto the main road. It is a bit confusing. We were lucky to hook up with the people riding in our van and we found our way back to where we were parked together. It was a little nerve-racking, and when we tried to ask directions, we could not find an English-speaking person.

Salt mine trip - We sent on a trip to the saltmine. In the salt mine - the group was big and the distancen between the groups was short, so we could hear the other group and there guide, making it very hard to hear our guide. On the Way back we get told that he will not drop us of at our hotel. No one has inform us about that or those it say on the ticket and when we brought the tickets we were told that we would be pick up and drop up by our hotel. It was raining cats and dogs . Please tell our custome that they will not be drop us at the hotel - so they Can bring clothes with if raining .

Very good site but not a winning formula - The visit to the mine is very good but there is little point in using this option. We had taken a direct collection option from the hotel which was not carried out (allegedly that the van would not be able to pass, which was false). No excuses or commercial gesture. On site, visits are made by official guides. You will easily find to buy a ticket and the tour times in French otherwise. Basically the formula is like having a taxi waiting for you and giving you your ticket. so-so
