Out of this world photography adventure - #mesmerizingmarketstour is a great, hectic and teaching (although tough) photography experience, that left me speechless. Thank you #calcuttaphototours. Hopefully I’ve not only become a better street photographer, but a more compassionate one too

My favourite Calcutta experience - I have been on the Mesmerising Markets tour three times. This is because it gives great opportunities for candid photography of "real life" as the city awakens, as well as the chance to engage directly with everyday people who are generally very open to being photographed. I always learn something new about Calcutta during the tours and Manjit is great at giving technical tips that help to improve my pictures. I have also been on customised photo walks with Manjit, designed at my request. No trip to Calcutta would be complete without going on one of these tours and I plan to do another one when I am back in the city early next year,

Photo opportunities of a lifetime! - This was the type of photography opportunity that I had always dreamt of, but never imagined that I could actually do. Having access to the busy markets, with a local, who kept an eye on everything and ensured you had the best experience possible was superb. Not only did Manjit point out awesome photo opportunities, including how to get the best out of the available lighting, and engaged with stallholders who he obviously knew well to ask for their involvement, he also made sure I wasn't going to hurt myself while looking through the lens when there's so much going on! It's an early start, but my goodness, so worth it. So good, I've done it twice - 18 months apart, pre-Covid, and I would gladly do it again, several times over. Highly recommended.

Tour for all the senses - Did this tour pre COVID but the system won't let me put earlier dates. It was an early start but this is a tour for the senses - colour, smells and sounds, and a bit of tasting. It can be a bit overwhelming with vendors, customers and haulers ... so it was great to have a guide like Manjit who's so experienced and knows his way around. Obviously, as a visual creative practitioner, he has an eye for the spectacle of the place. And we have some great street food afterwards - Manjit knows the good places. Lots of fun and a bit out of the centre of town - so it was a great way to see another district in this fab city.

Markets are full of people! - I'd go anywhere Manjit recommended to me. This one was a beauty! (But I've never had a dud.) Even though I am not a serious photographer I had a ball and have the iPhone pics to confirm that.

My Best Market Tour in India - The photography tour of Kolkata markets is a gem. The lively markets of Kolkata are extraordinary even if you compare them with other places in India. Also, one of the core capabilities of this company and Manjit in particular is personalized customer experience. No matter how unconventional and challenging the site is, the customer always feels comfortable and enjoys it. I especially recommend them to female solo travellers; I rarely encountered such sensitivity to the well-known issue of the safety of female travellers.

Outstanding Experience - As a woman photographer, my eye is often peering through the eyepiece of my camera. Often traveling alone, I am not able to both photograph and watch my surroundings. Several years ago, I discovered Manjit Singh Hoonjan and Calcutta Photo Tours on Tripadvisor. What a find this was! Manjit is a “fixer’ extraordinaire. He finds the best locations and makes working at each sight so easy and pleasurable. Because of his experience and respect for Kolkata and its citizens, I have never felt unwelcome in the great variety of locations he has suggested. He blends into the background allowing a photographer to work, unless he is needed. He understands the process since he is an outstanding photographer himself. If you are a photographer “newbie” Manjit is always willing to offer technical advice. The market tour is fascinating, but so are all of his other locations. And most important, I have always felt safe with Manjit! November 2019

Fantastic experience of a special and atmospheric location - This market is an intense place with a unique and vibrant atmosphere. I have visited and photographed here on many occasions and come away with strong images each time. As a working wholesale market, visitors really benefit from Manjit’s established relationships and good judgment as well as his warm and engaging personality. He understands when and where to explore each unique corner. He helps you know where you can position yourself for good shots without getting in the way of the hard working market workers This tour is highly recommended for those wanting to explore a different side of this wonderful city.
