A wonderful bit of time travel - The tour was a great way to visit the Labyrinth of Knossos. Our tour guide Akrivi was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and had a lovely soft and kind nature. More than just random bits of information, she told an immersive story. A story full of unexpected twists. I’d highly recommend booking this guided tour as without a good guide I’d imagine it would be quite difficult to truly understand the significance of ruins. Thank you Knossos guides and Akrivi!

Wonderful tour with a knowledgable guide - The period when this tour took place was what many news outlets are calling the "second wave" of the coronavirus. According to our driver who took us from Chania to Heraklion told us that Crete experienced 70% decline in tourism this season. My point, the group intended for 8 persons ended up being a 2 persons group (my girlfriend and me). That said, on to the tour itself. Before considering a tour I read a healthy amount of reviews about Knossos and found out that people who did not go for a tour ended up describing the whole area as "a bunch of rocks". That was enough for me to book a guide for this place otherwise you're not getting anywhere near to the information needed to get a glimpse into this ancient piece of history. So, we booked a tour and as luck would have it, it turned out great. Our guide, Calypso, was punctual, supplied us with the entry tickets and  gave us their audio system 'Whispers' so we could maintain a safe distance and still hear her. As she immediately pointed out her task was to rewire our thinking to that of a society living in that period and the limited mental models they had understanding the world and each other. Throughout the tour the history of Knossos was told through the prism of their own time which made a lot more sense trying to understand their train of thought. Looking through the lens of the contemporary times, as some early historians have, you will come to different conclusions of course. The duration of the tour was 1h30min which we thought was enough. Since it was only the three of us we could afford time to discuss a particular subject and ask subsequent questions. Definitely recommended! ======= TL;DR Book a tour guide when visiting Knossos. We had a great time with ours.
