Esala Perahera Festival - The Esala Perahera in Kandy is one of the oldest and grandest of all Buddhist festivals in Sri Lanka, featuring dancers, jugglers, musicians, fire-breathers, & many more. This is held in Esala (July or August) which is the month that is believed to commemorate the first teaching given by the Buddha after he attained enlightenment. Randoli Procession
Following the Kumbal Procession, the five ‘Randoli’ processions are held on five subsequent days. The most stunning and magnificent of these processions is the Randoli Procession (golden palanquin). During this time, the city of Kandy is brimming with both local spectators and tourists.
This is the only procession worldwide that occurs over a ten-day period, featuring hundreds of drummers, dancers, singers, and beautifully attired spectators and pilgrims.
