Indonesia’s 4th largest island, Borobudur is the world’s largest Buddhist temple, constructed in the 9th century, and is the most visited tourist attraction in Indonesia.

When the population converted to Islam in the 14th century, Borobudur was abandoned. Today the temple is protected by UNESCO with ongoing restoration and maintenance to keep the temple looking it’s best.

Enjoy yourself a quiet spot to sit and wait for the sun to rise over the horizon from the top of temple, enjoying the serene and spiritual atmosphere that seems to have infiltrated every rock via. As you look out to the hills and forests surrounding you it isn’t hard to imagine how explorers must have felt when they stumbled out of the forest in 1814 to find such a sight lost to the world for almost 500 years.

Best (and longest) day in Yogyakarta - Your best day in Yogyakarta begins at 3:30 a.m. to prepare for the 4:00 a.m. pickup for the trip to see Borabadura at sunrise. Our driver, guide and comrade-in-arms. ADIT made the day truly memorable. He knows more about Yogyakarta history and culture than most encyclopedias, and his English is excellent. Every step in the journey was punctual and on-time from beginning to end. My only regret is that Adit did not accompany us to the Borabadora Temple to act as a guide there as well. This is not allowed because the site requires visitors to be accompanied by a government paid guide who was maybe 10% as good as Adit in terms of information, relevence and clarity. After Borabadura, we stopped by a local coffee shop that serves the rarest bespoke coffee in the world (no exaggeration). Next was the 4WD jeep trip up the mountain to see Merapi Volcano. Adit did not drive this part (it was quite bumpy and a bit precarious charging through 3 foot deep water at certain spots). Adit then drove us to Prambanan Temple, which was glorious. Head spinning. Adit always made sure we knew the proper directions back to his car, which is important, because while you are transported back in time exploring these masterpieces, it's easy to get lost and not take the right exit. If this happens, simply text Adit on WhatsApp to get back on track. By the end of the day, we were exhausted in a good way --- and we owe it all to Adit. A truly memorable day. Word of advice for future travellers: Adit and his fellow drivers work very hard. DON'T forget to show your appreciation at the end of the trip. Then take a shower.

Very enjoyable day! - The guide was punctual, well appointed and knowledgeable while he drove me and my friend to our activities of the day: Borobudur, Mendut and Prambanan temples. Hibza went above and beyond to ensure that we made it to Borobudur on time to join the 11am temple entrance with the local, credited guide. Very nice and friendly, he also recommended a nice local place where to grab lunch in between the visits. Money very well spent, considering the price of the single entrance to each of the three temple compounds. At least you get a nice, comfortable ride across the region and all the tickets are included. We had a very enjoyable day. Terima kasih!!!

Amazing private tour! - The tour was as described and didn’t disappoint us in anyway. Adit was a great guide and explained all things in detail. He went out of his way to take us to a kopi luwak tasting place and also found us some cheaper souvenirs. Would highly recommended this tour!

A great tour with lovely Arma - We had the best time with our guide, Arma who picked up us right in time at our hotel in Yogyakarta and drove us to Borobudur, Prambanan and Mendut temples. Arma was full of interesting anecdotes about the history of the places we were visiting and always in great mood. He also took us to a great restaurant on the way as well as to a coffee place as we were curious about having the local variety. Would recommend 100%!

Top - We did the tour on a cloudy Monday (only the lower part of Borobudur is open on Mondays) and the clouds prevented us from seeing the volcano... I still give the whole trip 5 stars because it was a lot of fun with our driver Adit, who was able to tell us a lot about everything. The additional jeep tour through the water was also a lot of fun. An all-round lovely trip

Stunning temples and a fun experience with an excellent guide. - This was an excellent trip, especially for me as a solo female traveller. Hizba, my guide, was kind, attentive and ensured I saw all the sights, showed me special camera angles and offered advice on how to best view the temples. The car was new, clean and Hizba drove well. I highly recommend this day trip, especially for travellers who are short on time.

This Viator adventure was... - This Viator adventure was a bit different than the others. There was no group; it was just me and my guide, Thomas. He did an excellent job as a guide. We made additional stops for coffee and food when I asked him. The temples were impressive.

Special!! - This private trip was a real highlight. Our guide Adit was amazing. He was friendly and welcoming to us. He is so knowledgeable and passionate about all of the history and faiths that make up this beautiful area and how everyone, and their stories, exist together. It would not have been the same enriching experience without his help. Adit guided us through Prambanan and the lesser visited but no less important Buddhist Mendut. At Borobudur, you join a group of about 10 people as this temple has its own guides but Adit was careful to ensure we got in safely and let us know what to expect and met us upon exiting. It was perfect and not to be missed if you’re interested in learning more about this beautiful country.
