An island with both gentle waves and one of the world’s biggest breaks, in a state synonymous with surfing, Maui is the perfect spot to hop on a board. A range of beautiful beaches serves up thrilling playgrounds for all levels; from world-class waves for experts to calmer spots ideal for learners or stand-up paddlers. You can take a lesson or rent a board for the day. The welcoming water’s not the only element at work here—consistent, warm winds make Maui one of the world’s best places for windsurfing. If you don’t have the urge to ride the waves, surfing here is just as popular as a spectator sport. On the North Shore, hundreds swarm the cliffs to witness the mega-swell known as Jaws, while other beaches, such as Hookipa and Honolua Bay, offer daily shows in the surf.
The location was fantastic - we had awesome waves and a beach area to ourselves. Surfing in towards the shoreline with the mountainous volcano of West Maui in the background - words can't describe that kind of zen.
