It’s the reason millions flock here—the idyllic postcard utopia that lures travelers from around the globe: the Maui beach. From Kapalua, Kanaha and Kaanapali to Hamoa and Hookipa, the beaches here are consistently rated among the best in the world. And the selection is staggering: you have your pick of white, golden, salt-and-pepper, black, or red sand—all of which dip into gorgeous warm aquamarine waters. In winter whales frolic in the water offshore, while all year beaches like Makena and Kapalua offer snorkelers entry to an underwater world of sea turtles and parrotfish. All Hawaii beaches are public (though be careful not to trespass on private land to reach one), so even if you’re not staying at a resort you can enjoy its sand. Whether you prefer to laze on a towel and soak in the sun or to do something active—surf, snorkel or play volleyball—Maui’s shores have something for every beach bum.

Review

[Kaanapali] beach is beautiful. White sands, varying shades of blue, beginning with crystal blue where the sand meets the water, getting deeper blue farther out, lined with swimmers and sun bathers, but not too crowded at all.
