In winter whales frolic in the water offshore, while all year beaches like Makena and Kapalua offer snorkelers entry to an underwater world of sea turtles and parrotfish. All Hawaii beaches are public (though be careful not to trespass on private land to reach one), so even if you’re not staying at a resort you can enjoy its sand.
