About Tropical Botanical Gardens
This verdant alternative to sand and sea takes you to lush lands that once served as Hawaiian Queen Emma’s summer escape. A knowledgeable guide will usher you behind the scenes of the famous McBryde and Allerton gardens on trails not seen on the general tours. Uncover the splendor of unforgettable landscapes like Allerton’s jungle garden and Waihulili falls. The gardens are dedicated to saving tropical plants through conservation, research, and education, and are part of the non-profit National Tropical Botanical Garden. This tour isn’t for the very young kids; explorers must be eight and older.
Review
The self-tour is a guided tour into the gardens along an incredible beachfront cliff property by staff who are knowledgeable about every single plant and flower you see, and genuinely love their job. You have a couple hours to walk around, see waterfalls, rivers, incredible plants and flowers, some of which are endangered, the occasional butterfly, lizard, rare bird and other beautiful flora and fauna. Great way to spend 2 hours on an afternoon.
