Additional Information

Situated roughly 50 kilometers west of the city hub, Mt. Takao is hailed as the premier climbing locale in the Kanto region. In 2007, this magnificent mountain, along with Mt. Fuji, got the distinction of a Michelin three star spot and it also enjoys the status of a national park. This spot is ideal for a relaxing day trip of mountain hiking. Emperor Shomu, in 744, ordered the establishment of Yakushiji, a notable temple on the mountain, attracting numerous visitors since then. The mountain also offers one of the spectacular viewpoints of Tokyo, with the observation deck providing lush panoramic views of the Kanto Plain, dotted with towering skyscrapers at a distance. Escape the city chaos for a day and immerse yourself in this serene, spiritual environment amidst nature.

Very enjoyable. Highly reccommend - Highly reccommend this tour. Our guide Keita san was fabulous. He had a wealth of knowledge about all areas we visited during the tour and was very helpful and insightful throughout. The temple ceremony was a highlight. Great way to spend a day outside of Tokyo city. Thankyou for a great day

Hiking and more on Mt. Takao - This is a beautiful area for hiking, easily accessed by train, and offers trails of varying degrees of difficulty, from paved to rocky, leading to vistas at the top of both Tokyo and Mt Fuji. You will see shrines and religious sites that are interesting; the area is important to those considering the historic pilgrimage from Tokyo to Mt Fuji. Our guide Mori was wonderful and knowledgeable. The hike itself was about 90 minutes to the top, but we had great weather and it wasn't crowded, so we went quickly, choosing to linger at the top and then taking the funicular down to the base area, stopping at the temples. We finished with a nice soba lunch at the base, followed by a bath and massage at the onsen by the train station. We had not been to an onsen before, so some guidelines were important to know. Mori helped us navigate all this and we were so grateful and had a wonderful day.

Fantastic day outside the city - I had a fabulous day hiking Mt. Takao with my guide, Rie. The views were beautiful and we got a glimpse of Mt. Fuji! She was very knowledgeable about the area and its history. She also gave me a recommendation for a fun Monja restaurant in Tokyo that was delicious. I would recommend this adventure if you are looking for some time in nature outside the city.

Best Tour Ever!! - What a treat this tour was. Not only was I able to get out of the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, but I was also able to learn so much about the Mt. Takao area. My guide, Rie, was fantastic. She explained so much to me and I had such a wonderful experience. She was so friendly that I felt like I had known her forever. I highly recommend this tour. And the cherry on the top with the onsen (hot spring) was perfect!! Bring a change of clothes for the onsen abs you will leave feeling refreshed and invigorated. I can’t wait to do it again.

A Breathtaking Adventure to Mt. Katao! - Our hiking to the peak of Mt. Katao was nothing short of spectacular, seamlessly planned and executed by our wonderful guide, Rie. The route (one of several) up to mt takao was filled with beautiful scenery but at the same time peaceful and exciting. After the hike up to mt takao we had a delicious meal at one of the local soba-restaurants. Highly recommended 👍 To round of the day we took a well deserved bath at the hot springs close to the station. All in all, very enjoyable experience and Rie was a fantastic guide! :)

Not worth it. Better to... - Not worth it. Better to do it alone. Going to the mountain just consists of taking a train and going up the trail is easy to navigate.
