The journey spans 4 to 5 hours, covering a distance of 6.5km. It begins at Higuerón and continues to the mountain’s summit, where well-defined trails are present. At the peak, there’s a lookout point offering panoramic views of the forest’s eastern side. The higher elevation brings cooler temperatures due to morning mist and lush vegetation. During the tour, you’ll encounter patches of pristine forest with towering evergreens that serve as a sanctuary and food source for wildlife, facilitating easier wildlife observation.

The Cerro Blanco Protected Forest is home to over 240 types of birds that have been identified. Cerro Blanco is recognized as one of the ‘30 Priority Sites for Regional Tumbesina Bird Conservation’. It is one of four national reserves that shelter seven or more globally threatened bird species (Cerro Blanco hosts nine). In 1998, Birdlife International named Cerro Blanco as the Foremost Area of Importance for Bird Conservation on the Ecuadorian Coast. Out of the 240 identified bird species, 30 have restricted distribution ranges and 24 are unique to the Tumbesian Region.
