Zipaquirá and Guatavita are two complementary attractives, because both were the soul of the Muisca communities, that inhabited the high Andes in the center of Colombia.

By one side, the production of the salt, that was the most important product for them and became his territory into the most prosperous of the region. The salt was the most important product to interchanged by gold, that didn’t not exist in this territories.

On the other side, their religion. They adored the sun and used the gold to elaborate figures to be offered to their gods and get their favors. They believed the sun inhabited in the deps of the sacred lakes like Guatavita Lake, and used to go there to deposit their offerings.

This journey wanders through this two destinations in a tour plenty of clean air, high mountains, traditions, legends, deep tunels, history and fiction throughout the Colombian Andes.

  • The ascent to the sacred lake should de done walking in a stone path and requires effort. The climb goes to 3100 meters over the sea level. This trip is not apt for elder or persons with health difficulties. The park guides may not allow to someone to walk the path.
