Fun, lively, well-organised tour through some of Colombia's most stunning landscape - Extremely fun trip around the Guajira Peninsula with eleven jolly Colombians! The driver was entertaining and, being Indigenous, had a lot of information about the people we encountered. Everybody sang along to music the whole time, and the atmosphere in the car was always lively. Having dinner with an Indigenous family on the first night was interesting and amusing. Accommodation was comfortable and clean, and the food was delicious and plentiful, with an ample supply of cerveza! The scenery was absolutely awe-inspiring, truly wild beauty: harsh, arid terrain, rugged coastline, beautiful beaches, sand dunes meeting the sea, breathtaking sunsets. I would definitely recommend this tour and this company!

I do not recommend contracting with Sumaj Tours - La Guajira is worth visiting, pure and wild nature, a place with wonderful corners, with its Wayuu peoples who survive as best they can, forgotten by government authorities throughout history, their resources exploited and mistreated, today they try Get ahead as always. I do not recommend contracting with Sumaj Tours. We were aware before booking the tour that it was not going to be a comfortable destination, since there are many hours of driving, intense heat, not very comfortable rancherĂas with questionable cleanliness and repetitive and basic meals. Before contracting with Sumaj Tours they seemed very serious and organized to us, the reality was quite the opposite. They took us in a Toyota 4x4 that was not in condition to be used: window glass that went down and then did not go up (luckily solved after 2 hours of driving in intense heat), handbrake that did not work and every time As we were getting off, it leaned back, putting the passengers at risk, the trunk did not open with the appropriate inconvenience (solved on the second day of the trip), the fuel pump was malfunctioning and we came back bouncing and very slowly. The vehicle smelled a lot of gasoline because they were transporting a can in the same cabin where we were traveling, these gases are toxic and it is not the correct or legal way to transport it. A trip with so many hours of travel, I was not looking for a driver who would simply take me from one place to another to take the photo, but a guide who could really tell us travelers about the place, its people, etc... The Sumaj Tours agency assured me before booking the tour that all its drivers were Baquianos. I'm not going to doubt it, we had one who didn't speak or tell anything interesting. Missed opportunity to get to know this wonderful place better. At the exit from Riohacha there was a police checkpoint, the driver turned around on the road and exited through another area of Riohacha, this is not normal to do if everything is in order and the vehicle is in order. Apart from the fact that he drove in flip flops, and other times completely barefoot, this is not allowed by Traffic, simply because it is not safe. It is not possible that Sumaj Tours did not know the condition of your vehicle, and in any case I see that they do not carry out any checks. In this case they knew it in advance from the conversations they overheard with the driver. Therefore, my recommendation is that you look for another agency for this tour other than Sumaj Tours.

Great destination - horrible tour operator - Worst our ever in 8 years non stop travel. Did the trip to the Northernmost Point, the desert and the Dunes. Destination is great - but All in all it was a horrible experience. First the tour was offered as a private tour. Turned out that the wrecks of Toyota was packed with 6 people. So, expect heavy pain in your back and knees while driving the shaky roads. Although it is not very comfortable at all… Because of that there was no room left for the bags or some food and water. So it was all sitting in the ground where your feet belong. Everyday the tour started late at least one hour. Yes, you get food, but don’t expect to be satisfied in any way. Accommodation is very poor. First guest house had no water at all, second was very disorganized and had too less rooms for too many guests. Not what you want to have after a trip in packed car, right? To make it even worse, the driver didn’t care at all about everything. At the dunes there was no communication about we stay or continue. Nothing about the time. He just disappeared. So there aas no clue if you can go into the sea and dry again or get in the car with you wet trunks. But that’s not all… Although Owner of the company and driver knew that I had to get a flight in the afternoon they didn’t care. Guess what - I missed it, driver was smiling about this and the owner didn’t worry at all. So, I had to rebook another flight from another airport (Santa Marta). All in all extracosts of around 500,- USD for me. I still can see their smiling faces, seeing me going crazy. So, I Hope they go broke and leave me smiling also. Stay away from #sumaj #laguajira tour company for #cabodelavela #puntagallinas #dunasdetaroa experience
