Additional Information

You’ll be taking a journey through the areas of Rio de Janeiro, nicknamed ‘Little Africa’ by artist and sambista Heitor dos Prazeres in the early 1900s. These locations make up the historical and archaeological trail that honors and enlightens on the rich African legacy of Black Brazilians.

‘Little Africa’ designates a key part of the city’s coastline, which has been forever shaped by the influence of African culture and the Black community. This has not just affected the history of Rio de Janeiro, but of Brazil as a whole.

It was a haven for Black individuals from across the nation, usually under the warm welcome of ‘Aunt Ciata’, a central figure in this historical narrative. Through this tour of ‘Little Africa’, you’ll also explore the ‘Tia Ciata’ Cultural Center, Museum of New Blacks, Cais do Valongo, a hanging garden, and we’ll conclude at Pedra do Sal. This finale offers both a rich historical experience and a variety of superb bars and restaurants serving traditional Afro-Brazilian cuisine.

It will meet your expectations. - My experience with Wellinton was Excellent, 10 out of 10. and it met all my expectations. He was punctual at the meeting point and knows a lot about black history in Rio. It should be noted that because I am Colombian I loved that the tour would be in Spanish and even though he says that his Spanish is not good, it is. Everything was very clear to me, we made all the stops that the tour included between those museums of Prietos Novos and Piedra Do Sal, which I went to the next day at night and the atmosphere is spectacular. If you are looking for a private tour, do not hesitate to contact him.

Must Do!!!! - I definitely enjoyed this tour and getting a deeper look into the history and cultural influence of Africans in Rio. Of course there’s always more to a city than the main tourist attractions. I had no issues communicating with the company prior to the tour nor the day of. Our tour guide, Wellington, was very informative and personable. Due to Carnival, the tour was shorter than usual, but he offered to show us a few other things instead. Definitely recommend and good luck Wellington!

Great tour through Pedra del Sal - We had a great time with our guide Wellington. We walked through Pedra del Sal (Rio Dr Janeiro) and he showed us unique sights, buildings, streets, with amazing storries and historical insights. We've learned a lot about the black history and Samba in Rio.

No show - No one showed up. I'm hoping I get a refund. I got there 30 minutes early and waited for 40 minutes.
