Additional Information

Journey to Eira do Serrado, home to one of the most unique and stunning vistas, establishing itself as a highly valued ‘green’ area in Madeira.

The trip to the Nuns Valley (Curral da Freiras) village will take about 20 minutes, during which visitors will bask in the rural scenery, forest undergrowth intertwined with areas inhabited by charming traditional Madeiran houses. The village’s isolation is evident, with residents largely depending on their agricultural produce. The locally grown chestnuts are delightful and a staple in daily cuisine.

Upon your return, take a halt at the striking fishing hamlet of Câmara de Lobos. This is where Winston Churchill painted his beautiful landscapes, and where you can taste the famous local concoction, Poncha.

Amazing views of nun’s valley. - Very relaxed tour. Great guide - nice visit to fishing port followed by wonderful views of nun’s valley. Then dropped down to visit the quiet village and church. Nice small group (8) made more relaxing. Would recommend.

Superb afternoon adventure - Excellent afternoon trip. Stunning views. Absolutely beautiful landscapes. John was a very knowledgeable guide. The chestnut cake & liqueur was a real treat. Enjoyed seeing all the fruit growing. Lovely chilled half hour with Winston Churchill too. Highly recommended.

Very enjoyable afternoon tour - An excellently organised half day tour to the Valley of the Nuns. Book online and they will contact you and arrange a pick-up from near your hotel; ours was from the bus station/taxi rank next to the cable car terminus. The minibus arrived dead on time, and we were taken to the viewpoint overlooking Curral das Freiras at an elevation of about 1090m. You have to walk the last bit to get the best views of the surrounding mountains and the village looking tiny below you. There was an incredible drop in temperature from sea level, so take something warm. Then we were taken back down to the village itself where there is a small museum and a cafe with time for coffee and cake, and loos. Then down to the fishing village of Camara des Lobos and again time for a wander down to the harbour before being taken back to the pick up point. There was just about the right amount of time at each location and we were driven very smoothly and safely by Roberto on the steep and tortuous mountain roads whilst at the same time he gave an excellent commentary in both English and German. Highly recommend Lido Tours - my only criticism would be the type of vehicle used, for a tall person like me the seating was very cramped and I’m not sure I could do a full day tour in such a small bus.

Madeira in a cloud - Weather was awful. Visibility next to zero. Wet and cold. Driver did a good job. We achieved some appreciation of Funchal and Madeira. But not much
