Very educational and worthwhile - We deviated off the plan because of Ramadan, but had an excellent tour of the town and a wonderful rooftop dinner. Zayed was very knowledgeable and personable, and did a great job of explaining the history of the city and the Moroccan culture.

Great for those looking to eat like a local and learn about Essaouira’s hidden architectural gems! - Buying fish at the market and having it grilled for us at a local restaurant was a highlight. We didn’t get to sample pastries from any bakeries, but our tour guide was an engaging expert on how the port city’s historical and cultural influences helped to create the lively buildings and markets still standing today! This tour is great for those looking to learn more about the hidden architectural gems of Essaouira and eat like a local family!

Cultural, Historical, and Tasty Experience! - Our guide Ziad was extremely engaging and knowledgeable. He shared fun historical details of Essaouira that changed our whole perspective of the city for the rest of our trip. My husband is a native of Marrakech and even he learned so much about the architectural motifs on the archway and doorways that tell the story of who lived there over the centuries. We didn’t sample local pastries, but we did learn a lot at a wood working cooperative, which was beautiful. Our favorite part was buying fish from the market with our guide and grilling it at a local restaurant for dinner. Overall, I would recommend everyone check out this trip if you’d like to have a more intimate understanding of the city’s influential design and the chance to eat like a local!

Insider's Guide to Essouria - We didn't know what to expect, but what a unique experience we had with Abdeljalil (the unofficial mayor of Essouria). He knew everyone and provided us the insider's look at this beautiful city. We loved learning the history of Essouria and seeing some key sites (like the Game of Thrones gate). He took us into the fish market and chose a variety of fresh fish, vegetables and chicken. Then we went to a local grill and had it all cooked and served to us at a rooftop patio. By the end, we were well versed in how to get around, what to see, and tasted some of the best food Essouria has to offer.

Excellent history tour - We had been before and we were keen to learn some History, our guide was very knowledgeable and we learnt so much about the city. Well worth doing, things in the medina you just wouldn't notice on your own. Certainly lots of history. We choose not to have supper but you can go and to the fish market and pick what you want cooked in a local restaurant. The guide had a good sense of humour.

Truly immersed in local culture - Ahmed our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about his home town, we learned and were shown things we would not otherwise have discovered or found ourselves. This was very much being immersed into living like a local with the visit to the harbour for fish and it being cooked for us on a charcoal grill in the medina. This part is not for the faint hearted, and no cutlery is provided! The fish however was as fresh as you can get and cooked well. We also visited a thuja wood workshop which was very informative and returned to make a purchase. Any questions we had about local customs were answered though we did not receive the recommendations for eating out and shopping mentioned in other reviews.or sample any pastries or tea so perhaps tour's depend on guides preferences. Overall we were glad we experienced the to help orientate ourselves with this great town.
