You will discover on this tour aspects of the castles such as the male and female dungeons, condemn cells, “door of no return” among several others. Learn on this tour how enslaved Africans were kept in cells prior to their “shipment” across the Atlantic and inhumane punishments meted out to “recalcitrant” ones who fought whiles in incarceration or ladies who resisted rape by the governor or the soldiers.
  • Cape Coast Castle - Take a guided tour through the underground dungeons of this castle which remains the meanest of the slave castles. Visited by the Obamas in 2009 and Melania Trump in 2018, this former English castle from 1665 has a very interesting story to offer you.

Seriously, book this trip. - Wow. Wow. WOW. We had an incredible time with Kojo while we traveled to Elmina Castle and Cape Coast Castle. Kojo set up private tours of both castles for us and then took us to an incredible lunch. The castles are deeply moving and powerful. The drive from Accra to the castles is long but gives you time to hear from Kojo who is SOOOO knowledgeable about Ghana and the surrounding areas. He knew everything about each suburb we drove through, the history of the different monuments and statues, and how day to day life is in Ghana. I genuinely loved our time in the car where we could ask him any questions we had. Beyond just being a good tour guide, he’s a great guy. He asked questions about our lives, took the time to get to know us, and was such a pleasure to spend the day with. Cannot recommend this guy enough, had a tremendous day.

A must do trip (five stars) - If you’re thinking about going on a tour while in Ghana, This is the one! From our morning pick up to the time we were dropped back in the late afternoon, everything was very smooth and well aligned. Our driver and tour guide “Prince” were so helpful and informative throughout the long drive to the Cape Coast Prince would point out interesting places and information along the way while also allowing you to relax and take in the views along the journey. Our private tour of Elmina Castle was definitely something we would all recommend, this allows you to hear and see the history of the the castle at your own pace without the additional crowds Our tour guide was amazing and told us the REAL history from a true Ghanian historian view and not the European edition of information. After the castles we headed off for lunch at a lovely hotel with a beautiful views over the hillside, food was a buffet of freshly cooked food, there was lots of choice and it was all delicious. One of our party is Gluten Free and this wasn’t a problem and the staff showed everything that was ok to have (nearly everything apart from one dish) We were four adults 43 to 76 years old The mini bus is large & air conditioned The drive to the coast is two and a half to three hours but the drive is picturesque.

Awesome and Informative - This was a great tour! We were picked up from our location in an air conditioned van, we were given extensive background and history on Ghana and its tribes and history, played games, it was so much fun! The National Park is beautiful. The castle tours were heavy, but our guide (I want to say his name was Kojo - born on Monday) took us to a great beach restaurant in between to neutralize the energies. Would definitely recommend this tour!

A Must For Every African - I must advise on a day trip from Accra, do not spend all your time at Elmina castle rather spend much time at Cap Coast castle where the male dungeon is bigger and the accounts about the number of slaves that were taken out onto the boat at one particular time were larger and so pathetic. Leave early in the morning before 6am or latest at 6:00 am to avoid the traffic at the toll booth and before Kasua. Depart Cape Coast or Elmina lastest 3:00 pm so that you do not drive into the night.
