Additional Information

Kareri Lake Trek is situated approximately 2,950 meters above sea level within the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. It serves as an ideal short escape to unplug from the repetitive everyday life and immerse oneself into the wilderness. Encircled by towering peaks and dense alpine foliage, Kareri Lake Trek owes its origin to streams descending from the Minkiani peak. This trek through the Kareri Lake is renowned for its picturesque highland paths, meandering through lively brooks and verdant grasslands. Traverse pastoral hamlets that boast their unique enchanting appeal. In addition, the local temple dedicated to Lord Shiva should not be missed. Bird enthusiasts will be particularly drawn to the trail, as it hosts a diverse array of avian species to be spotted. Keep your camera on hand for those impeccable snapshots. The woodlands in this area, comprised of pine trees and underbrush, provide an excellent covert for spotting some of the area’s rare birdlife.

Kareri Trek - Rocky walk with breathtaking views and climbing.🙈 My brothers and I decided to take a trip to the mountains and stumbled upon the kareri lake trek. This was the first time for the three of us to go on a trip like this. So for our convenience we decided to go with a guide. The trek starts from Kareri Village about 17 kms from Dharamshala (can be reached by taxi). We started at about 8 in the morning from Kareri. First few hours went by pretty easily. It was like strolling through meandering paths of the jungle, sitting by the stream side and enjoying the flora. But as soon as we crossed the halfway bridge it wasn't just strolling and sitting by the stream for fun. Gigantic rocks made the rest of the way very difficult to climb and very tiring (Wearing durable shoes is highly recommended or like me one will have to climb in chappal - no kidding). There are many small shacks on the way where we stopped for Maggi and feviquick (for the shoes). All the difficulties and the bad shoes were worth the feeling when we reached the lake. The reflection of the mountains in the lake made them seem so infinite. At the end of the day all we needed (and got) was a hot meal and sleep under the stars. Thanks to our amazing guide Ankush from Kareri village who showed us the way and provided us with everything that we needed. I highly recommend Sunny (9805099403) to help plan the trek of Kareri Lake. He is an amazing person with a very helpful nature.

Glimpse of frozen kareri lake - Hi all, we have just returned from Kareri lake trek. Overall it's a beautiful small and easy trek ( I'll give 3/10 as difficulty level), and all beginner trekkers should try this. We visit the lake in the 3rd week of March to see the snow and frozen kareri lake. The trek also can be done in autumn to see the lush green colour and deep blue sky ( but without any snow at that time). The trek, almost covering 13 km, actually starts from Kareri village. From Kareri village to nolli bridge the motorable road of about 3km is full of rhododendron flowers all around. We actually covered this part by car, and started trekking from nolli bridge. From nolli bridge to reoti village ( the mid point between nolli bridge and Kareri lake) the path is more or less covered with shadows of rhododendron trees and one can constantly hear the sound of niyund river which actually runs alongside of whole stretch of this beautiful trek. We had started from nolli bridge at about 11:30 am and reached reoti village by 2 pm and had our packed lunch there by the side of river. Many of the trekkers camp at reoti, visit the lake and come back at reoti camp site on same day, and descend down on next day morning, and some of the trekkers rest the rest of the day at reoti, visit the lake on next day morning and descend down . However we and a few trekkers continued the trek and reached the kareri lake at about 5:30 pm on the same day, camped over snow and on next day after having breakfast descend down to nolli bridge. The second half of the trek ( from reoti to kareri lake) becomes more and more beautiful,as the trek route runs very close to the river. And after some km the path was fully covered with snow. Camping at kareri lake gave us the opportunity to enjoy the full moon night view of the frozen lake, the morning walk over the lake and obviously absolute peace and calmness of the nature, as most of the trekkers avoided to stay at Lake. One should check whether camping at Lake is opened or not, because too early in March it is often closed due to heavy snow. We have done this trek through Travel monk adventures ( 8146654329) and if possible, ask for guide Shyam ( 8882964700). Shyam ( or Sam ) is really a great guy with skills ( already completed the basic and advanced course). If anyone plans for triund trek, which was not at all good as kareri lake trek, please rethink. Thank you @travel monk, hope to see you soon
