Additional Information

Ostrog, a significant site for Orthodox Christians in Montenegro, is located on a cliff towering 900m above the Zeta valley and attracts up to a million tourists each year. Enriched with myths and folktales, this pilgrimage site exudes religious significance. Carved out of a nearly vertical mountain cliff, the monastery symbolizes the spiritual core of Montenegro, giving an illusion as though it has sprouted from the rock itself. It was built in two colossal caves in 1665. During your tour of the Ostrog monastery, you will be enlightened with enthralling tales of its construction, the monks living here, and chiefly about St Basil - a saint attributed with miraculous powers whose relics rest in the Upper Monastery. You will also get an opportunity to experience the traditional Montenegrin lifestyle by visiting a local household that preserves the ancient Montenegrin ethos in the current times, including savouring authentic Montenegrin delicacies prepared by the native hosts.

Religious experience - A place of ultimate cult for Orthodox Church. Impressive. Located and carved in the mountain rock 2000m above the sea level. Difficult access, maybe on purpose, but worth seeing. Restricted entrance by car, but i was permitted to enter. Kind an polite security, but at sam time very attentive. Very different, very interesting, original in its specific ceremony. Recommended strict following of the rules and protocol. Due to the respect above all. Also, haevy and attent security on place. Stunning view on sunset.
