Queswachaka - During the era of the Inca Empire, a vast network of pathways spanned the realm, featuring the prominent Qhapaq \
\, which connected various routes across the challenging Andean terrain. Among these routes were suspension bridges crafted from plant fibers, a sophisticated technique passed down through generations. Remarkably, one such bridge persists, continually restored each year for over half a millennium, bridging history with the present day. Perched over the Apurimac River at an altitude of 3700 meters, the sole surviving Inca bridge, known in the tongue of our forebears as Q’eswachaka, stands as a testament to Inca engineering. Annually, over a thousand individuals from four communities convene to rejuvenate its structure. This time-honored practice was honored by UNESCO in 2013, earning a designation as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
