  • Durham Market Hall - Enter the medieval market square & discover the stories behind this architectual gem with its statues and market hall. If open, we will be able to enter the Victorian Market
  • Palace Green Library - On the route leading to Palace Green, enjoy a true experience of medieval Durham with lanes filled with medieval architecture, clues of a bygone past and little snickleways (called vennels in Durham) leading to some extraordinary finds.

In Palace Green, marvel at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Durham Castle & Cathedral and also hear stories of Prince Bishops and your surrounding square…

  • Durham Castle - Take a look at this fabulous castle - not all is as it seems though and your guide will reveal all…
  • Durham Cathedral - Gaze at this magnificent Romanesque building - one of the largest of its kind. If time allows, you will be able to walk through the cathedral and your local expert can give you some insights during your walkthrough. Feel free to reach out to us if you would like a fully guided tour of the cathedral as part of your tour. Please note the cathedral can close from time to time due to services or special events at short notice.

  • Prebends Bridge - Cross the river Wear on Prebends Bridge - you will be rewarded with some of the best views onto Durham Cathedral (a view even WTM Turner admired).
  • The old Corn Mill - Enjoy a splendid walk along the riverside of Durham’s river Wear, home to some of the best rowing athletes in the country. With any look you will see some training sessions… The views are marvellous onto the cathedral and castle.
  • Framwellgate Bridge - Cross yet another bridge on the river Wear - this time it is the 15th Century Framwellgate Bridge leading back into the heart of the city.

One of my best tour experiences - I did two tours, one of Hadrian's Wall, and one specially created for me, which followed the life story of a 19th century serial killer (for a book I'm working on). I kept congratulating myself on being smart enough to pick this tour company. The trips werebeautifully researched, fun, and incredibly knowledgeable. The guide, Anna Unger, was thoughtful, smart and just good company. Beautiful country, terrific guide, great experience start to finish.

Great Tour of Durham - Excellent Tour of Durham including the Cathedral with our guide Anna. It was a wet and windy afternoon but that did not distract from a really interesting tour around Durham. Even for some of us who had been to Durham several times we learned a lot and discovered new areas we never knew about.... Great afternoon out.

Brilliant historical tour of Durham - We were in Durham as part of a historical tour to do with Lindisfarne, St Cuthbert, St Bede and the Lindisfarne Gospels. Our guide, Amanda, was a serious expert in all our areas of interest and really brought Durham and the Cathedral alive for us. We highly recommend using Amanda.

Anna is amazing tour guide! - My family and I were traveling from London to Edinburgh by train and wanted to add a stop for a few hours to visit Durham. Anna was the perfect guide who went above and beyond to make our tour extra special! She was accommodating and helped us plan a private tour that allowed my 82 year old father to join the tour. Anna is very knowledgeable about Durham and also shared some Harry Potter sites which was a huge hit for my daughter :) Thank you Anna for being an amazing guide and going above and beyond while visiting your beautiful city Durham!

Beautiful City/Interesting History - We enjoyed our day out with Amanda in Durham. She was friendly and kind enough to wait as we were late arriving due to unforeseen circumstances that morning. She provided an interesting tour and is very knowledgeable about the history of the area. Durham is a beautiful city with an interesting history and well worth visiting.
