Additional Information

Teide National Park is a prime spot for sunset viewing in Tenerife. In 2013, recognition was received from the Starlight Foundation as it was designated both a Starlight Tourist Destination and Starlight Reserve, sparking increased interest from tourists with a passion for astronomy. As a result, Tenerife has since become a hotspot for star gazers from different corners of the world. Teide National Park’s low light pollution levels, coupled with its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sets it as an optimal location for observing the beauty of the night skies with a myriad of stars and constellations. Efforts to preserve these viewing conditions are reflected in a special legislation that has been implemented in Tenerife, which controls flight routes and manages the level of light pollution within the park’s borders. Situated at a height of 2000 meters, we will trace the constellation patterns identified by generations before us and their most luminescent stars. We will also utilise high-powered telescopes in our observation.

Great stargazing experience - Ozzi was a brilliant guide whose passion for astronomy made the experience very enjoyable. The tour was well organised and good refreshments were provided. The coach was comfortable and driver excellent. Ozzi also showed how to use an iPhone for astronomical photography. All around excellent.

Star hailing experience with Ozzie - This trip was amazing due to 1 man OZZIE! His enthusiasm is infectious and his language knowledge amazing. Ozzie created the most perfect experience. He explained so much about stars and planets that I never new. This trip is a must for anyone who wants an entertaining night out and wants to see and learn about our solar system. Yes it’s just a few hours but very worthwhile. Ozzie 10/10

Tenerife stars. - Sunset amazing and star gazing great. Food was awful and I felt 60 plus people to 1 guide 'Ozzi 'and 3 telescopes could be improved. I would recommend the star gazing experience but with a smaller group and maybe eat before you go.

Unreliable, not greatly organised either - There was a calima when we arrived so we waited for it to pass prior to booking to ensure skies were clear We booked Wednesday for a trip on Saturday leaving us Sunday to rest prior to returning home Had confirmation on Saturday morning of pick up time and all seemed to be great Shortly afterwards Ozzie called, stating tour could not go ahead as the vehicle had a problem with the brakes and was dangerous. Brakes do not just fail overnight so this points out to poor vehicle maintenance which is totally unacceptable Tour refunded and rebooked indirectly with another company for the next day with what we hoped for would be a more reliable company with better maintained vehicles. Low and behold we had booked through an agent who contracted the tour out to Tenerife Stars as the next morning we had an almost identical What’sApp message from Jessica confirming pick up times Pick up time was prompt and after a few stops on route to collect more guests we headed off to a restaurant in the Guia de Isora area for the included dinner. The meal was poor value, half a roast chicken which was on the menu for 6 Euros served with 3 tiny Canarian style potatoes and a handful of rice. Starter was a bowl of vegetable soup and small bread roll accompanied with typical green and orange sauces. Dessert was a tiny and I mean tiny portion of chocolate mousse. Vegetarian option was just to remove the roast chicken and replace with roast vegetables. Kids option chicken nuggets and chips. Provided with the meal was a bottle of red wine (one very small glass per person) and water and fizzy drinks. Once the bottle of wine was finished they would not replace and when asked for a drinks menu for buy another this wasn’t provided as they were too busy or simply forgot to bring it. If the chicken was priced at 6 Euros the total meal would be worth 8 or 10 Euros maximum Next up, continue up the mountain for the sunset with Ozzie making jokes and continuing to talk non-stop. Not much to report on the sunset as it did what it said on the tin Stargazing It seemed the group split or was joined by more guests as one telescope was manned by a guide talking exclusively in French leaving the rest of the group with Ozzie and 2 telescopes No real crowd control and this part was poorly organised. Queues going in more than one direction to view the telescopes (I appreciate it is hard to marshall people when it’s dark but having more staff would have solved this issue When Ozzie explained the constellations to us he asked us to all step back so we would not get the laser in our faces. Great idea but this just led to being unable to hear properly as other disinterested guests were talking amongst themselves and causing a distraction by taking photos on their devices More staff clearer needed to control the group and perhaps you need to explain the etiquette of not talking amongst yourselves and taking photos etc when the guide is giving a demonstration of the constellations Return to the hotel about midnight which was to be as expected but the cancellation of the previous night meant getting a very tired young child up and ready to return home the next morning which made for an exhausting flight home Overall the value for money was poor and the trip needs better organisational and more staff to control the group. I’m only giving 2 stars as 1 of the stars is purely for Ozzie’s passion and enthusiasm (although he does talk maybe a little too much at times! LOL!) otherwise it would only be 1 star review I hope the company can support Ozzie better with more staff to help him and provide better maintained vehicles to stop tours being cancelled on the day of the trip

Disappointing - The visit was cancelled, communication with the fatal company took more than 24 hours to respond to a WhatsApp in which they asked to confirm the time and location. They never picked up the phone. A shame because I'm sure that with another company it would have been better for us.

Could have been so much better! Lies and headlights… - The sky was stunning, the patter less so. He told a quite a few lies wrapped up in truths… ‘it isn’t the size of the group that will limit us tonight, it’s the sky, so I can only show you four things tonight’ . While it is true that the sky shows only a small fraction of the total at any one point, there was 20+ things he could have shown us, so yes it is the three telescopes between 70 people that limited it. ‘ Andromeda isn't up at the moment’… (I point at it) ‘oh it isn’t high enough in the sky’ don't talk rubbish! Also if you are in to astronomy you may be disappointed by what he shows you… you don’t go to an international dark sky to see the two brightest things in the night sky! Finally, why set up on the main road?! Eyes take 20 minutes to fully adjust to the dark, which was impossible with the cars passing! To sum up, the sky is worth it, and if it’s you only way to go up Teide at night then go for it, but otherwise drive yourself up and pull up somewhere off the road!
