Highlights

Your Grand Turk sightseeing tour starts at the tram station near the cruise terminal on the southern end of the island. After boarding the open-sided tram, set off on a route that takes you all the way up to Grand Turk’s northern tip.\n\nDuring the tour, your local guide will narrate with fun facts and information about the island, pointing out old churches, inns, cannons, windmills and other historical attractions, and helping you spot wild horses and donkeys. Pass by Governor’s Beach and the Space Capsule on your way to Cockburn Town, where you’ll stop to enjoy a cool drink (not included in tour price) and food tastings by local merchants. You’ll also have the chance to shop for gifts and souvenirs.\n\nThen hop back on the tram to continue north, passing by Her Majesty’s Prison, built in the 1830s, and the National Museum, housed in a colonial building. Travel by Crabtree Park and North Creek on your way to the Grand Turk Lighthouse, perched on the northern end of Grand Turk. Built in 1852, it’s the only lighthouse in the Turks and Caicos. After snapping a few photos, head back down the island.\n\nThe journey through Grand Turk also takes you past the island’s salt ponds, known as ‘salinas.’ These remnants of the country’s old salt industry are now home to flamingos and other tropical birds. As you go by them on the tram, your guide will tell you about the natural formation of the saltwater ponds and about the history of the industry, which dates back to the 1600s.\n\nYour tour ends with return to the tram station.\n\nPoints of Interest\n\n- Island Tram Tours

Beautiful island - Interacting with the donkeys. Visiting the museum and learning the history. Doug our tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining.

Good experience of the island - A very good tour of the island although a little late in staring. (Follow directions sent to find pick-up point for the tour, don't expect a big booth at the Cruise Centre, but it's relatively straight forward with the clear directions given.) Good informative commentary from Doug gives a real feel for the island. Perhaps a little more time at Cockburn Town would have been useful as visiting the small museum (well worth doing) was a bit rushed. Value for money was better than tours offered by cruise liner.

Tony's VIP Tram Tour - good simple tour of Grand Turk for cruisers - This was an excellent simple tour of the island, starting at the cruise port (southern end of the island) to the lighthouse (northern tip of the island) and back. Our tram driver was excellent and provided good narration as we passed through the "downtown" area and all through the island. He gave brief histories on the various buildings, landmarks, culture, industry, and the stories behind the wild donkeys, horses and dogs that we saw along the way. The weather was perfect when I went, and the PA system also worked fine. I was in the 2nd tram car and had no problem hearing the driver. The stops (museum / gift shop, lighthouse) were very short, but that is the nature of this type of tour, so it was no big deal. This tour was a good value.

Fun - Our tour was nice, the only problem was not being able to hear the tour guide over the roar of the engine on the tram. Other than that, it was great, and there were some fun stops.

Not Recommended - The motor on the tram was so noisy we could not hear anything that our tour director was saying. I would have thought they would offer a reduced rate. The driver simply said that the engine needed a part that would reduce noise. I have no idea what kind of part would cause that noise in a engine so I think it was just to appease me. Trip is not worth it without any commentary.

Next time I will spend the extra 10 bucks - Doug our tour guide gives a tour of the Island in their tram that is barely functioning. Almost got stranded but after being stalled for a few minutes luckily we made it back to port. Take some of the money from these tours and buy yourself a new microphone system. It functioned 50% of the time at most. Cost was reasonable- did not get beverage or free food samples as advertised.

Never confirmed tour. Read other reviews before booking this tour. - Never received confirmation that we were signed up so were unable to do the tour. I will be disputing the charges as soon as we return home. First time Victor has failed me. I would recommend someone else on Grand Turk. Very disappointed.

It was canceled - Tram broke down so the trip was cancelled. We rented a golf cart instead and drove around on our own. Tram operator apologized for the inconvenience. Good luck!

Disappointed - twice the expected time investment and couldn't hear - Short: Inaccurate start time, very hard to hear anything from speakers so couldn't learn on the tour, poor coordination at stops with no respect for time, dedicated 4 hours of our port day unexpectedly. Detail: Viator shows check-in is at 9:00, so we checked in at 9:00 to find out the tour wouldn't start until 9:45 and it is a known Viator error. Fine, so we waited in the designated pickup area. 9:45 comes and goes, nothing. 10 comes and goes, nothing. 10:15 roles around and the tram arrives. One group reserved the front 'car' of the tram. The rest of us sat in the second 'car' in the back. The audio ranged from extremely difficult to hear to impossible to hear. The tram engine apparently had a malfunction still going on despite attempted repair, which caused an extraordinary loud engine noise the entire trip, and the speakers just weren't very loud. Since no one in my group could learn anything about the island, we looked forward to the stops. The first stop was a typical tourist vendor stop, which is to be expected, but the first stop took 20 minutes longer than announced. Attendees were stuck on the tram for 20 minutes waiting to leave. When we got to the second stop, the lighthouse, the whole group was told to be back in 15 minutes. Everyone in the second section was back on time, while the first section of the tram (one large group) did not attempt to reboard and sat around on benches inside the lighthouse area chatting and shopping at the gift shop. Attendees started complaining to the tour guide within 5 minutes, and the tour guides did not attempt to get the group back until we were 25 minutes overtime at the location. Took a few minutes to get the late group loaded. The last stop, a stop for pictures in front of a lettered sign, was also to be expected for this kind of tour. The tram did have to be stopped a few times and restarted, but it always started back up. The tour guide said it was to try and quiet the engine down. Mixed to no results. The only reason we go on these tours is to learn about the places we visit. Between the three of us, we only learned a couple half pieced together facts from catching words here and there. The view is pretty, but the tour guides make no attempt to respect your time. Our 2-hour event, which was already not starting at 9 OR 9:45 when they said boarding would start, took 4 hours out of our day. Disappointing unexpected use of our short port stop. I suggest finding another tour, or researching a self-guided tour and renting a golf cart/UTV. Traffic is a little stressful with cruise populations, but the guided UTV tours looked well coordinated with staff guides helping to manage traffic to keep groups together. If you do plan to make any stops bring cash.

Save your money and avoid this tour - Our Island tram tour of Grand Turk, was the most disappointing tour we’ve ever had. We rode in the second car of a two car tram. Doug was our driver. The sound system was not working in our car, so we informed Doug of the problem. He said there were issues with it but he’d turn up the volume. We had to ask him a second time because we still couldn’t hear what he was saying. He said he was doing the best that he could. After our stop at the lighthouse, we still couldn’t hear what he was saying, but realized that there was nothing that he could do. In fact, at one point, he stopped the tram to adjust a new sensor that wasn’t working. It wasn’t clear whether the sensor was related to the audio problem. Unfortunately, I didn’t check previous reviews prior to signing up for this tour. If I had, I would have seen that there was an audio problem reported in February. Obviously, there’s been no effort to correct this issue. We really feel that this trip was not what we signed up and paid for.
