Explore the former Mogador, Essaouira, during this day trip. The Sqala consists of two wings protected by the Navy gate. From the Sqala, take a walk to Moulay Hassan square and explore the Kasbah, a district surrounded by ramparts with its foundations anchored in rock. Stroll along the ramparts and visit the Sqala of the Kasbah, where the famous guns of Essaouira are located. This place was used by Orson Welles as the location for the exterior sets of his film ‘Othello’. At the center of the Kasbah, the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions serves as a reflection and collective memory of the Essaouira province. You’ll have the chance to see the musical instruments used by the Aissaoua, Hamadcha, and Gnaoua brotherhoods for religious or secular purposes.
