Pompeii Archaeological Park - First stop is Pompeii:
you will enjoy the Pompeii Archaeological Park (Skip-The-Line Tickets included). You can go inside on your own or if you wish, you have the option to include a private licensed guide for an additional fee. If no private guide option is chosen, you can rent audio-guides (availables in English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese and Japanese).
Pompeii Ruins:
Visiting Pompeii is not like a museum , is as live again in an ancient roman commercial town of 3 Km. Buildings, temples, shops catched in the time of the eruption. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many ancient towns in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. -
Vesuvius National Park - Lunch and Wine Tasting (both included):
In a local restaurant/winery on the slope of the Vesuvius Volcano: it is located between Pompeii and Vesuvius’ volcanic crater. All guests visiting the winery are welcome to stay for an “Italian style” tasting, held on the terrace overlooking the Mediterranean.
Tasting menu includes:
⢠Antipasto appetizer with local products: salami, provolone cheese, ‘casatiello’ (a local savory bread), and bruschetta with heirloom Piennolo tomatoes on bread baked in a wood-burning oven, paired with Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Bianco DOP, Rosato, and Rosso.
⢠Spaghetti made with durum wheat flour and tossed with a sauce made from heirloom Piennolo tomatoes and basil, paired with Lacryma Christi Riserva (aged in French oak barrels for 18 - 24 months).
⢠Pastiera Napolitana, a traditional dessert, paired with Capafresca Spumante Rosato and Acquavite di Albicocche del Vesuvio, an apricot distillate.

Parco Acheologico di Ercolano - Last stop Herculaneum Archaeological Park (Skip-The-Line Tickets included):
Born in the archaic age and initially inhabited by an indigenous settlement, the city was later exposed to Samnitic, Greek, and Etruscan influences, up to the predominance of Roman civilisation, still today visible and in an excellent state of preservation. Situated on a volcanic plateau, sheer over the sea, Herculaneum like the other cities of Vesuvius was submerged by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D., which buried it beneath a layer of debris measuring up to twenty-three metres in height.

Touring Pompeii and Herculaneum: A Wonderful Experience! - I booked a private tour for my nephew and I. We were picked up promptly by our driver Paulo at our VRBO and hit the road. He gave us great details about all the landmarks and ruins that we passed along the way and gave us tips as we drove to Pompeii. He was funny and friendly, stopping if we needed him to and helping us conserve our time so that we could spend the maximum amount at our destinations.
At Pompeii, our tour guide Carmella was knowledgeable and kept us moving along at a steady pace. She was patient with my picture taking and my occasional slowness; sometimes I have trouble walking. But she brought Pompeii alive for us, and we covered a great deal of ground.
Our lunch and wine tasting at Cantina del Vesuvio, there on the beautiful terrace that overlooked Napoli Bay, was delicious. The wines were superb. I only wish we could’ve taken some home.
Our next stop was Herculaneum and our guide, Anita was also kind, patient, and knowledgeable. She took her time with us, made a point to show us even the smallest details, and took us through the on-site museum as well.
Our last stop was at a shop and farm that produced pure buffalo mozzarella. We were able to taste the cheese, and then go out to meet the water buffalo themselves! That last was an unexpected treat provided by Paulo himself.
It was an absolutely wonderful experience and I highly recommend it. My one regret is that I had forgotten my wallet and we were unable to give Carmella a tip because we couldn’t stop at an ATM until after we left her. But I highly recommend her and I hope she knows how much we appreciated her work. In fact, I hope that Paulo and Anita know this too. They were all wonderful guides, and we felt well and truly informed and entertained the entire day.

Worth the price!!! Don’t miss this experience - A must do! A wonderful day seeing the ruins with a lovely lunch and wine tasting stop near Mt. Vesuvius. We had an excellent driver (Gianni) and amazing on site guide (Marie Elyse). Definitely a splurge but you won’t regret it- from the minute of pick up until we returned everything was 5 star. Thank you!!!

We’ll worth the extra money for a private trip! - This was a wonderful experience!! The driver was very good and courteous and was waiting for us before the pick up time - he is an ambulance driver in Rome if you can imagine, so we were glad he was driving. The mozzarella tasting was perfectly timed for a nice breakfast and the guide was very interesting and informative. The lunch at the winery was really fantastic - great wine, great food, beautiful setting, wonderful tour guide. Herculaneum was a highlight - FAR less crowded than Pompeii and the frescoes and mosaics were much more impressive. We were all very glad we included that.
I wish we had more time in Pompeii to visit the small museum before rushing off for lunch.
If you want to see lots of artifacts discovered in the cities, visit the museum in Naples. A combo trip to include the museum would be amazing!
