Cable Cars

San Francisco’s steep hills are nature’s original roller coasters, and a ride on the city’s historic cable cars is not only thrilling; it spares you the walk. The city was once laced with 23 cable car lines; now only three remain, but they’ve become a symbol of SF. Join the line at the turntable at Powell and Market to catch either the Powell-Hyde or the Powell-Mason lines, terminating at Aquatic Park and Fisherman’s Wharf, respectively. The most historic and least crowded line, running since 1878, goes east–west along California Street from the financial district, over Nob Hill, and ends at Van Ness. In addition to being one of only a handful of mobile national landmarks, the cable cars clang by some tremendous views. Hop on and don’t forget to grip the handrail while your Gripman minds the brakes. They’re not the most convenient way to get around, but they’re certainly the most memorable—no matter if you’re 5 or 65.

Review

I personally like riding the cable cars, only been on them a couple of times when people are in town visiting, and it's always an experience. If you can stand on the outside, you get the true experience of riding up the hills.
