Highlights
  • Caesarea National Park - The city of Caesarea was constructed under Herod and named after the Roman Emperor, Caesar. From what remains of the ancient city we can see that it was a prosperous and luxurious city. Among the archaeological excavations we can see gateways, a moat and well preserved walls and rooms. There is a perfectly preserved Roman amphitheater which is still used today for performances by Israeli and international artists. Next to the amphitheatre is part of what was once a hippodrome.
  • The Baha’i Gardens - We continue driving north passing through Haifa where we stop to see breathtaking Baha’i Shrine and gardens. The terraced gardens cascade down the mountain towards the city below, each of the 19 terraces bursts with colorful flowers and landscaped designs..
  • Rosh Hanikra - Our next stop is at Rosh HaNikra, the most northerly point along Israel’s Mediterranean coast. We descend by cable car into the network of limestone grottoes created by the constant bombardment of waves against the rocks.
  • The Grottos at Rosh HaNiqra - Visit and explore the Grottos at Rosh Hanikra
  • Acre - Visit the Old City of Acre
  • Citadel of Acre - We can see the Crusader remains, the prison used under Turkish rule and the gallows which were used under the British Mandate to hang Jews who broke the British law limiting Jewish immigration to Palestine following World War II.

A worthwhile tour - This tour takes you to four interesting and historic sites in Israel. The first stop was in Caesarea, a city and port build by Herod. It has a long history. You can see a palace built by Herod, a Roman theater and hippodrome, and a Crusader castle. We stopped in Haifa to see the B’Hai temple, then visited the grottoes at Rosh Hanikra. The last stop was in Akko, another city with a long history. We visited the underground Crusader city, which is a gem of early Gothic architecture. My only complaint about the trip was that I would have liked to have seen more of Akko. Another hour would have been nice to have. The guide was very good and well informed l would definitely recommend this trip.

Could have been a better tour. - If you are auditorily challenged (wear hearing aids) do not take this tour. The sound system on the bus cannot be heard over the air conditioner. Furthermore, the mini-PA system used by the guide during the tour was also inadequate unless you stayed very close at all times. Sevin, our guide, was passionate about the subject matter, but when questions were asked, she never repeated the question, which again left some of us missing the benefit of her answers.

Not a small group tour - This was not a small group tour. I was in a group of at least 40 people, and in fact the group was so big that we lost someone at the first stop. The tour guide spent at least 30 minutes looking for her (it wasn’t his fault she wandered from the group), but we lost so much tour time while he searched, that our next stop was just a ten minute stop at a viewpoint to take pictures. I booked a small group tour to avoid these types of hassles, but did not get what I paid for.

NOT a small group tour and they control lunch and shopping - The tour guide was incredible and it was interesting, but NOT a small group. We were told after on tour that the contract says under 40. So BEWARE! Under 34 is a large tour bus with lots of people trying to hear with no listening device so definitely NOT a small group. Also, they control where you shop and where you eat lunch even though you pay on your own. NOT good choices and rude restaurant staff. No free time since they controlled it all. Felt like back in Russia.
