Exceptional experience - Our experience with Sumatra Orangutan Treks was nothing short of exceptional! We stayed two nights in a beautiful bungalow. The accommodation was clean and comfortable; the entire place was like a little paradise getaway! But what made the experience was the team. We were greeted at the airport by the driver, Berlin. The journey to Bukit Lawang was seamless, so it didn’t feel long. We were then welcomed at Sumatra Orangutan Treks by the friendliest team. Everyone was so accommodating throughout our stay. They cooked for us (food was delicious) and entertained us (great singers & guitarists) - A truly wonderful bunch of people! A special shoutout to our tour guides Dedi & Bambang who took us on a 1-day trek and made the experience truly memorable. We got to see 10 orangutans up close as well as other wildlife (such as leaf monkeys, rhino hornbill, white-handed gibbons, peacock, and baboons). Not only did we see a lot, but we learnt a lot too. We’ve been travelling throughout South East Asia for two months and this has been hands down our favourite experience. We highly recommend it!

Amazing jungle trek with amazing people. - We want to thank all the team, we had such a nice experience. We saw orang Outan and more than we were expecting : white and black gibbons, Thomas Leaf monkeys, macaque … it’s a unique adventure and our guide Didi made this trip amazing. Just what I needed - Solo traveller with a week off for the Luna New Year from my teaching job in Vietnam. I wanted to get away into a jungle and find Orangutans. It was exactly that and more. From the accommodation in the lodge to the wonderful guide Ewin, everyone and everything surpassed my expectations. Thank you Kellan for organising such a special experience. P.S don’t forget sunscreen, you may not need it in the jungle but that 40 minute tube ride back to Bukit Lawang burnt me to a crisp.

Amazing experience - Such a good experience! Lovely staff, food and vibes. Our guide Didi made this experience unforgettable. All the team was very friendly, always checking on us to make sure we were enjoying the experience. It was so nice to see wild orangutans and other animals in the jungle. The trek is quite hard, and the humidity makes it harder. Anyway the guide can adapt a little bit the trek to your fitness levels. Amazing experience with the best team - Best experience in my life. The jungle and the views unforgettable and breathtaking. Best time and best guide with Didi and Wahyu. We got to see many otangutans and lots of apes during the 3 days trek. Enjoy every single moment and the rafting was amazing. The food was excellent with chef Eki. Breakfast, lunch, fruits and dinner always ready for us. So greatful for the team that made this experience so easy and unforgettable always with a smile and willing to help and teach us. Thanks also to Daddy Cool for being the best host in the guest house and to Hari for organising everything and provide us with the best at any time.

The Most Special Experience - What a special experience this was with Sumatra Orangutan Treks. I couldn't fault them. We didn't have much time so could only do the 3 day tour but this was perfect to give us a taste of the jungle and life in North Sumatra. The deluxe bungalow we stayed in was incredible, perfect for our stay. All the food provided was delicious with lots of fresh fruit. The trek itself I will remember for a lifetime. Our guide, Amed, was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. We were lucky and saw several orangutans in one day and were encouraged by the team to keep an appropriate distance. This felt like a very ethical tripped aided by the fact this company is run by local people who know and love the area. They also support the local community and provided lovely gifts from local businesses. We would recommend highly to anyone considering a trek in Bukit Lawang.

Great experience trekking for 3 days - I booked a 3 day (2 night) trek with Sumatra Orang Utan Treks as a solo traveller and highly recommend it! They were able to arrange a private car transfer from Medan airport to the accommodation in Bukit Lawang and also let me join a group of 2 other travellers for the trek. They were able to ensure that - due to my peanut allergy - there would be no allergens in the food which was a big relief. During the trek we managed to see 7 orangutans and a pair of siamang gibbons in additional to hornbills and lots of other wildlife. The food options were great and our guide Pandi (unsure about spelling) was extremely knowledgeable and helpful throughout the trek. The accommodation for the 2 night in the jungle had waterproof wooden huts, a small mattress and mosquito nets so was more comfortable than the camping I was expecting. Would be happy to return and go on a longer trek next time!
