Additional Information

Located about 32 kilometers to the southeast of Kathmandu, Panauti is a traditional Newari municipality and is recognized as one of Nepal’s most ancient settlements. It boasts a collection of temples originating from the 15th Century or before, situated at the junction of the Rosi and Punyamati rivers, which are revered in Nepali culture. Historically, Panauti was a bustling trade hub complete with a royal palace, but now it is home to numerous significant Buddhist and Hindu shrines and is deemed a crucial medieval heritage site in the region.

At the site of the ancient Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, Namobuddha stands as a paramount Buddhist pilgrimage destination in Nepal and is revered globally. According to lore, it marks the spot where Buddha, incarnated as Prince Namura in a former life, sacrificed himself to nourish a famished tigress and her offspring.

The Kailashnath Mahadev Statue holds the distinction of being the tallest temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in the world. Standing at an imposing 143 feet (43.5 meters), the structure is crafted from a blend of copper, zinc, concrete, and steel.

Our first tour in Nepal - The guide was helpful and adapted the schedule to our needs. Anyway, this tour is advertised as 7h long and it seems that the lunch break is not included in the itinerary, which is strange. The sightseeing we saw met our expectations.
