Would definitely recommend. - Ugur was very friendly, informative and considerate. We visited a great range of food outlets. We were an adult family of 6 plus a lovely Australian girl - all good company, fun and relaxed. A particular favourite was the pickle shop!

A wonderful experience in Istanbul - Our guide Remziye was fabulous and wanted to ensure we were provided with great food and a rich history of Turkish food. We had been to Istanbul previously and had been not able to find great food. Our experience was totally different after our food tour. The following day after our time with Remziye we walked back to the areas and businesses she had taken us to. I recommend that anyone who has the time when visiting Istanbul joins one of Culinary Backstreets food tours.

Great Food and History - The guide’s knowledge of the area and its history was excellent. The food was very good. Plenty of variety and quantity. It was a great way to experience an area of Istanbul at night.

5 stars - Esin was a wonderful host who showed us many great places that were not at all "touristy". She was very engaging and appreciated the time she spent with us and the stories shared

The walk from Galataport will stir your appetite - We did this tour during a free night on our cruise. It was a brutal hike up from Galataport but we discovered a neighborhood of small family-run restaurants that served “fast food” during our tour that we would never had known about. It was a good thing we did all that walking too, because our appetite was ready. You will enjoy the pickle shop and the lahmacun, but wait till you try the kunefe! I’ve already been searching recipes to make it at home.

Outstanding - Remziye was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic on this tour, and made significant effort to find good restaurants that could accommodate us before sunset when people would break their fasts, as it was during Ramadan. She shared a great deal of knowledge about food and drink culture in Turkey and Istanbul. We ran into her the next day as well and she was very helpful giving us a realistic timeline for an activity we had planned that evening. We would surely have been late without her advice!

Experience of a lifetime. Great food, conversation and education. - I cannot recommend Culinary Backstreets Tour highly enough. This was our fourth tour with them - we used them in Lisbon, Athens, Tbilisi and now Istanbul. Each time it has been the highlight of our trip and this was no exception. Dilek, our guide, was a marvel. She warm, incredibly smart, passionate about food and history and, above all, just a wonderful person to spend the day with. We walked away from the tour with a full stomach, a enhanced understanding of Istanbul, an experience of a life time and a friend. 10 out of 5 stars :)

Culinary backstreet is amazing - I would recommend this tour and company to anyone who would listen! The experience was amazing. It ended up only being my husband and I on the tour. Our guide Remziye, was amazing. She explained the culture, history, and food that we were enjoying. She is extremely knowledgeable and the food was amazing! We tried things that I would not have thought about trying in a foreign country because I would not have necessarily understood what I was ordering. She took the time to explain the food and the history of it prior to enjoying each delicious dish. . I will definitely look to see if there is a culinary backstreet tour where I travel to next!

Beyond Baklava in Beyoğlu! - We chose this tour because we were staying in Beyoglu and we were so glad we did! Our guide, Benoir, spent five hours with us showing us such a wide variety of foods and drinks and locations we couldn’t have found by ourselves. Benoir explained the cultural origins of all the foods and also how they are made. Tapas, breads, pastas, local pizza were just the beginning. Do this tour, but as Benoir warns… don’t fill up on the bread! You will be eating a lot!
