Food tour of two continents with Erol - Erol provided us with an excellent food tour. He explained the culture behind the different items we tried. I really enjoyed the varieties of food. I appreciate that that even though there were only two of us they still did the tour. Erol also answered the many questions we had about the culture of Turkey. We tried foods we would not normally have tried. Highly recommend Erol and the food tour.

So much more than a food tour 🇹🇷❤️ - With just over 48 hours to spend as a solo traveler on my first visit to Istanbul, I wanted to find a way to really connect with this city, its culture and people as deeply and quickly as possible. A colleague recommended Culinary Backstreets, and I could not be happier that I followed her advice. I took the “Born on the Bosphorus” tour with the warm and extremely knowledgeable Dilek as my guide. A native of Istanbul, Dilek is an archaeologist and highly experienced guide who shared a wealth of information about Istanbul and Türkiye and local life and history and culture throughout the day. And the FOOD… so much wonderful food! Starting with an amazing breakfast in the Beşiktaş neighborhood on the European side, I knew I was in for a day of incredibly delicious and interesting cuisine. Turkish breakfast is my new favorite thing, and we lingered over it, luxuriating in the flavors and textures and excellent conversation. After a few more stops for the best baklava and borek I’ve ever had, among other delights, we hopped the ferry across the Bosphorus to the Asian side of the city and the utterly charming neighborhood of Kuzguncuk for about 4 different lunches, ending the day with a visit to Üsküdar market for pickles and Turkish Delight (get the cranberry-pistachio, it’s out of this world!) You really need to pace yourself to fit in all the food, and the leisurely strolling around between food stops really helps! I could go on and on about all the incredible sights and tastes of the day, but suffice it to say that the tour is well worth the money and time, especially if you want a deep dive into local culture, and to connect with people, places and dishes you otherwise might not have known to look for! Dilek is an excellent guide, and by the end of the tour I truly felt I had spent the day with a local friend, and absolutely fell in love with Istanbul. Great value and an experience I will never forget!!

Wonderful food tour experience - Really excellent experience. A fantastic way to understand more about the city, its culture, and how food plays such a big role in its daily life. We've eaten plenty of 'Turkish' food at restaurants in the UK, but the food on this tour was completely different to anything experienced back home. Lots of surprises throughout, and all of it delicious! Special mention to our guide Erol who was welcoming, funny and above all extremely knowledgeable; had an answer at hand to any questions anyone was throwing at him!

Definitely Worth It - We lucked out, and it was a private tour with Erol. He was a pleasure to be with and gave us so much interesting information. He took us to soo many delicious places, and we learned a lot about Turkish food. Don't sleep on the baklava dipped in cream at the end! I thought this food tour was well worth the price. Thank you, Erol!

Great experience - Ended up just my father and myself on the tour and we had a fabulous time. Erol, our guide, was super knowledgeable and we had some great chats about the food & Turkish culture and history. The food was delicious and it was great to go to places off the beaten trail that we'd never have had the opportunity to visit as tourists. Stuffed mussels were a personal fave! Would definitely recommend the tour. Thanks Erol!

Food is okay but tour is overpriced - Very kind and happy hostess. We were in a group with 2 others. The food is good and you get to taste some local food. Would have loved some grilled meat or fish or other local dishes. Considering the price of 90 euro and the food worth is like 15-20 euro max this tour is pretty overpriced. You will get enough food and she will tell you some history as well. All things considered it was good.
