Often referred to as the Grand Canyon’s little brother, Charyn Canyon stretches approximately 150 km in length and reaches depths of up to 300 meters in certain areas. Our visit will include the “Valley of Castles,” which is 2.5 km long and 20-80 meters deep.
The Canyon’s formation dates back around 25 million years.
For hiking enthusiasts, there’s a 2.5 km trail leading to the Charyn River. Alternatively, you can opt for a car with an open roof for 500 KZT to enjoy the scenic views from the comfort of a vehicle. The Canyon and river offer breathtaking, picturesque views.
- Lake Kaindy - Following our visit to Charyn Canyon, we will head to Saty village for lunch at a local guest house or yurt. After lunch, a 40-minute drive will take us to Kaindy Lake. We will switch cars twice (using older vehicles), followed by a 15-minute walk to reach the lake. You will have about an hour of free time at Kaindy Lake.
Situated at an altitude of 2000 meters, Lake Kaindy is relatively young geologically. This 400-meter-long lake was created in 1911 when an earthquake caused a massive limestone landslide, forming a natural dam in the gorge, which was subsequently submerged, covering the spruce trees.
- Kolsai Lake - After visiting Kaindy, we will travel to Kolsay Lake through Saty village in our own vehicle.
Kolsay Lakes are among the most stunning locations in Kazakhstan. These lakes are situated at elevations of 1800, 2250, and 2700 meters above sea level. We will visit the first lake, located at an altitude of 1818 meters, with a length of 1 km and a width of about 300 meters. The beauty and tranquility of this place are unforgettable.
