Snorkeling and Diving
Incredible as Maui's landscape is, if you don’t take a look underwater you’ll miss one of the most memorable views of the island. Maui’s warm, clear turquoise water, fascinating volcanic structures, and abundant marine life make for world-class snorkeling and diving. Colorful neon fish dart in and out of coral reefs, sea turtles and manta rays swim in the shallows, and dolphins, reef sharks and monk seals stir in the depths. During whale season, one of the most hauntingly beautiful experiences is to hear a humpback sing underwater. A calm South Shore and large selection of dive shops makes Maui an ideal place to get scuba certified, while snorkelers can join a tour or rent or buy a mask and fins and explore right off the beach. Whether dunking into the Molokini crater, investigating the St. Anthony wreck or reveling in the raw beauty of La Perouse Bay, you'll see that Maui was made for the flipper and mask set.
Keep in mind that coral is a living thing and if you get cut on it, you need to clean the wound immediately or that stuff can grow inside you. Snorkeling in Maui is something we do each visit so as long as you'e aware of the hazards you can have a great time.
