About Beach Blanket Babylon
You won’t want to miss the brave (and strong-necked) cast of this production as they balance the biggest hats ever seen on stage on their heads. The show, which is America’s longest running musical revue, follows Snow White on a hysterical quest around the world to find her Prince Charming. Along the way, she runs into an ironically portrayed cast of pop-culture and political celebrities toting huge hats and ridiculous wigs. The most popular is the fully functional, 11-foot-tall San Francisco skyline hat, weighing in at 100 pounds. Unlike other musicals you may be used to, this one focuses on jokes that tap into current events and trends, so some of the humor may be lost on younger audiences.
Beach Blanket Babylon has SF written all over it. It's liberal, blunt and fabulous. While I wasn't rolling on the ground laughing, it was the singing that blew me away. Although the seating arrangement is a bit too cozy, there couldn't be a bad seat in the house since the venue's size isn't humongous.
