Chand Baori in Abhaneri is renown for its remarkable step wells. It holds the title as one of the oldest stepwells in India. This particular stepwell is unique as it exemplifies two distinct historic phases of hydric architecture coexisting. As an iconic location in Rajasthan, it dates back to the period between 800 to 900 AD, constructed under the auspices of King Chanda from the Chauhan Dynasty. The stepwell was created in honor of Hashat Mata, the deity associated with bliss and good fortune.
